“I didn’t want to give it up, but too much stress left too little time for you and the children. And if you are serious about another one, I couldn’t leave it all on you.”
Frowning, Brooke nodded and her eyes searched Frank’s face. “Right…” she began. “But you’ll have more time at home?” That was a plus. A thought then crossed through Brooke’s mind which she wondered if Frank had thought about. If he gave up that aspect of his work… “and you’d be on the same wage? I mean, not doing part of your job anymore….surely you’d be….” That bit certainly wasn’t just Frank’s business. They had a family to look after.
“Regardless, he likes me. He asked me how I did it, putting up with you, once. I told him it took a lot of cotton and ‘yes dear,’ but once you got past that, you just got used to it.”
Raising an eyebrow, Brooke’s lips curled into a grin. Yeah…Frank was funny. But he did indeed spend a lot of time saying ‘Yes dear’. “Because it’s such a chore to deal with your brilliant wife?” she asked, her fingertips tracing Frank’s arm over a tattoo. There was a lot she could say to her brother about the questions he asked Frank. The twerp would be in trouble if she could get her hands on him. That may have been why they only saw each other on special holidays…
“Old man? Where did that come from?”
Brooke had no idea. It had been the first thing that had come to her head at that moment. And besides, she didn’t often think fully before speaking, which she should have done. She saved the thinking part for work. “Well you are older than me.” She shrugged and leaned over to her husband, kissing him softly on the lips. That would hopefully shut him up.
“I… I was your first?”
Smirking, Brooke made the tiniest move of her head as a nod before running her fingers slowly through Frank’s hair. “The cogs are finally in motion.” She mumbled. She couldn’t quite tell what he was thinking as his face seemed quite blank with confusion as he thought. His expression was indeed amusing but Brooke wanted to know what he’d say next. Had he thought she’d been with many guys before him? The only reason she’d gone with him that day was because she’d been furious with her parents and what better way to get back at them?
“Really? I… why didn’t you tell me?”
Smirking, Brooke moved over and onto Frank, her knees on either side of him and she lowered herself down to kiss his lips. “If I’d have told you then, I don’t know what you’d have done. And then I just haven’t found it important information.” And she moved down, kissing his chest before looking up at him. “I mean, what do you think of it?” she asked quietly, her cheeks reddening.

“Right… But you’ll have more time at home?... and you’d be on the same wage? I mean, not doing part of your job anymore….surely you’d be….”
Frowning, he shook his head, blinking. “No, since… Vice Dean gets paid more than a teacher, and they had to compensate things when I took both jobs.” Rubbing the back of his head, he sighed. “I’ll be on a higher wage than I had been before I took the Vice Dean job, and just slightly lower than what I’m making now.” Nothing big, what extra he had been making they’d still been putting away.
“But we haven’t done much with the extra I’ve made, so it could be considered a bonus, to not get…” frustrated. Frank had been thinking a lot about the new change, and wasn’t sure if he was going to enjoy being just the Vice Dean. Then again, he knew he was needed as more than a teacher, to help back up Gabrielle and her decisions and help out as needed.
But was that really worth what he thought he was sacrificing? He supposed he’d still get to teach students, just not about things he used to do. It was a new chapter in the book of jobs that Frank had done over the years, and he would take to it like he’d taken to the change he had faced before. And of course Brooke would ask about the money. They were comfortable, only really having any trouble around the Christmas holiday. And even then, they had bank accounts set up to help in times of need.
“Because it’s such a chore to deal with your brilliant wife?”
Shaking his head, he smiled at her as he felt her fingers running over his arm. “Not a chore, dear. More a desired duty?” Winking at her, he laughed. “No, I love dealing with my brilliant wife, if only because she puts up a decent argument.” Moving his free hand up, the one that wasn’t attached to the arm being traced, Frank gently ran his fingertips through her hair. “I like your hair down. You should have it down more.”
“Well you are older than me.”
Raising an eyebrow, he kissed her back. Right, now she was trying to make up for calling him old. Oh well, it didn’t bother him as much as it would have bothered Brooke. Smiling when she pulled away, he caressed her cheek. “Well, as long as you like that, I think I’m okay with being old.” Ah, but how to put in there about how Brooke wasn’t old? Brownie points… “When such a beautiful young woman takes interest in such an older man, it boosts the ego, right?”
“The cogs are finally in motion.”
It had obviously been something Brooke had not wanted to tell Frank. But as her fingers ran through his hair, there wasn’t much protesting he would have done, or fuss he would have made. “Finally.” It had taken him a little bit, and he’d felt like hitting himself for being so dense. At the time, all Frank could see was green, jealousy rearing its ugly head, and him being defenseless against it. Yep. That was his excuse.
“If I’d have told you then, I don’t know what you’d have done. And then I just haven’t found it important information.”
As she straddled him, Frank smiled against her lips, pressing up against them before she pulled away. Resting a hand on either thigh, Frank gently squeezed them. “I would have taken my time, Brooke. I wasn’t an ass.” Then again, he had taken his time, because she had been in pain. Looking back on it now, it was definitely a ‘duh’ moment.
However, he had taken her word, and the ego booster she’d given him had been enough to quiet his thoughts. What man wouldn’t agree it was because he must have been bigger than any other? Watching her kiss his chest, Frank pulled one hand from her thigh to run through her hair, smiling when she looked up at him. “Well, thank you for telling me, Brooke.”
“I mean, what do you think of it?”
Blinking a couple times, Frank’s smile fell off and he tilted his head while watching Brooke’s reaction. However, after a moment of thinking, he smiled and leaned forward, kissing her lips gently. Lying back on the bed, he sighed. “I think you learned quick for me being your first.” Knowing that wasn’t what she meant, he grinned wider and looked over his wife’s face.
“I wish I could have known then, so I could have shared in the special… I would have liked to make it more special than we did, you know?” Caressing her cheek, he moved his fingers to run through her hair again. “And I’m honored you chose me.” Though he did wonder that if she had been upfront about it, and she had waited, if the thing with Richard wouldn’t have happened. Thoughts needn’t be thought.
Holding on to her, Frank rolled over so he was on top. Kissing her lips, he moved down to her neck, moving back up to her ear. “I think you are amazing. Thank you.” What else could he say? It was still a shock, considering how fast after that Brooke had picked up on things. Pulling back from her earlobe, he smiled down at her. “And I’ll guess you didn’t tell your mother that either?”

“But we haven’t done much with the extra I’ve made, so it could be considered a bonus, to not get…”
Frowning, Brooke was positive the sentence needed to continue. “…dot dot dot…?” Wasn’t it supposed to be Brooke finishing sentences like that? Frank had that odd habit of actually finishing what he wanted to say…when Brooke didn’t interrupt him. The money thing wasn’t much of an issue, but could Brooke be blamed for being interested? She just liked being in the know about what was going on. After all, it had obviously taken Frank a while to break this whole thing to her anyway.
“Not a chore, dear. More a desired duty? No, I love dealing with my brilliant wife, if only because she puts up a decent argument.”
Frowning, Brooke tilted her head. “Only decent?” Biting her lip, she pondered over just letting that rest as it was. Frank had complimented her, why couldn’t she accept it and move on? Ah yes…it was Brooke. “Ah well I love dealing with my amazing husband, if only because he dishes out many compliments.” There, that was better.
“I like your hair down. You should have it down more.”
Brooke smiled as Frank’s fingers ran though her hair. It felt nice. “You like a lot of things.” She replied quietly, her voice just above a whisper. She always felt it was a mess when it was down so she much preferred it back and manageable. But was that even important? Frowning, Brooke’s fingers traced up Frank’s arm, her finger nails tickling the bare skin. “Besides, you’re not the one that has to deal with it.”
“I would have taken my time, Brooke. I wasn’t an ass.”
Finger’s tracing down Frank’s bare chest, Brooke smiled and nodded. “No, but you were also the kind of guy that would have probably said it wasn’t right.” There weren’t many guys like that but Brooke for some reason could see Frank like that. As though it was such an important thing that it had to be perfect and blah blah blah. Brooke certainly hadn’t thought like that. She hadn’t in fact given it any serious thought. She’d never had everything explained to her and hadn’t cared at that time.
“I think you learned quick for me being your first.”
That wasn’t what Brooke had meant but she just smiled and leaned down, lying on Frank, her stomach pressing against his. “I was always a fast leaner.” She whispered in his ear, kissing the lobe softly before pulling back up. Was Frank unable to come up with a straight answer however? Brooke had wanted to know what he thought about the situation, not about her. She knew how he felt about that.
“I wish I could have known then, so I could have shared in the special… I would have liked to make it more special than we did, you know? And I’m honored you chose me.”
Rolling her eyes, Brooke sat up slightly, still over Frank. “I don’t know what is so special about the whole thing anyway. I just wanted to do it and it was supposed to be a one night thing. I never planned on seeing you again. But when you turned up the next day at the beach wanting to meet me again, what could I say?”
“Whoa!” Brooke gasped as she was taken by surprise as Frank rolled them over and he was on top of her. He always did that… He was kissing her lips and Brooke kissed back, her arms now around her husband’s body, a hand on his lower back and another at the back of his neck. He moved down to her neck and then back up and Brooke dropped her head back onto her pillow, enjoying the moment.
“And I’ll guess you didn’t tell your mother that either?”
Why did he keep mentioning her mother? What a great thing to talk about when in the bed. Shaking her head, Brooke bit her lip. “Well in a way I waited until marriage. That should be enough for her.” She muttered. A noise pulled her away from her thoughts as it grew louder. Crying.
Closing her eyes for a moment, Brooke took in a deep breath. It was Ana. She’d been so restless recently and of course Brooke had been the one to get out of bed to see to the crying toddler. Giving Frank a quick kiss on the lips, she rolled over so she was on top of him. “I’ll be back.” She whispered before moving off Frank and climbing off the bed. Grabbing her silk dressing gown from the back of the door, Brooke slipped it on before heading out of the room, closing the door behind her silently.
