Accepted! *drum roll* beautiful Job. See the following PM...
Gabrielle Balgden
Name: Jessica
Other characters on the board: None
Are you over 13?: Yes
Name: Li Mei Zhi
Age: 17
Year in Salem: Senior
Gender: Female
Birthday/Sign: December 25, 1980 / Capricorn
Blood Type/Purity: AB- ; Muggleborn
Appearance:
Li is a beautiful young Asian woman by any standard. She is petite, like her mother, and soft in appearance. At only five feet and one inch tall, she is by no means a big girl. Her frame, like most of her relatives, is quite small. She has hair as soft and fine as silk and black as night, which falls long and straight over her thin, pale shoulders. Her father often calls her “Dove” in Chinese because she is so delicate and fluttery.
Her skin is soft and pale, smooth without many blemishes at all and she barely wears any make up. When she does, her already pale skin appears porcelain in nature and she can be described as a China Doll. But, behind a soft and gentle expression, she has eyes of determination and fire.
Personality:
Li Mei is driven. It is of the utmost importance to her that she should succeed in whatever she chooses to do, no matter what it might be. She sets high standards and goals and intends to meet them in any way possible. If she does not meet these goals it makes her even more determined to succeed. She will work harder and more diligently than ever.
As a worker, she can’t be beat. She is devoted beyond reason and ready to do as much work as she has to for things to work themselves out. She is subtle with her intelligence and in a debate situation often sets up her opponents for a huge logical let down. This nature tends to discourage others from having arguments with her, which upsets Li to some degree – everyone’s ideas deserve to be justly challenged in her eyes.
But under a hard working exterior, Li Mei is a good soul. She loves to help people and although she may seem quiet and studious, she can be a party animal with those she is comfortable with. Not quick to make friends, she is mostly a quiet intellect. But, with her best friends, she is nothing but laughter and smiles. She is extremely loyal to her friends and will stick by them no matter what. She’s cautious and careful, but when the time comes for her to do something, she can throw caution into the wind and make sure that everything turns out right.
History:
Li Mei was the second born in Greenwich, Connecticut. It is an upscale area for wealthier people and that’s what her family was. Her father is a banker in New York City and her mother is a designer in a fashionable boutique. They already had one child, a son, and anxiously waited for the birth of their second. Li Mei’s older brother, Lok Zhi was already turning six and very excited that he would be receiving a sibling. When she was born, she was named Li Mei, or “Pretty Rose.”
And from her earliest years her parents and brother were going to make sure she was going to be just as successful as they had become. Teaching her everything she had to learn, Zhang Zhi, her mother, had a vested interest in her only daughter’s future. Lok was more than happy to assist his mother in teaching letters, numbers, and colors; however, there was something strange about Li Mei.
The normally charming, beautiful little girl had funny things about her. When she was angry, things would happen. Books would fall; things would disappear only to reappear in different spots, and just general strange things. Zhang and Wen dismissed these things as coincidences and ignored them at first. But, as she got older, the bouts of violent tantrum and strange occurrences got even stranger.
She began to exhibit strange tendencies, like bouncing when she would fall or sneezing a purple sort of dust. They didn’t understand what was going on with their little girl; however, they didn’t make it treat her differently. So, they sent her to the same private school they had sent Lok to and she attended with phenomenal grades all throughout.
But, when she was eleven, the family was informed of why Li Mei was so different. She was a witch. The thought had never entered any of their minds and indeed, she was more than happy to hear the news. She had just thought she was strange, but this meant there was a legitimate reason behind the way she acted. Lok, the most skeptical of the family, thought it was a hoax, a trick brought on by a mean schoolmate, but Li Mei wanted to attend, she was more than eager and wanted to refine this new skill she had.
Zhang and Wen were in no position to deny their daughter an even better, or at least, unique education and she quickly found her way into a coven school. Excelling with excellent marks very quickly, Li Mei found a new niche and she loved it. She was more than happy to take the tests to get into the Salem Witches Institute of Magic and was quite excited when she was accepted.
As a bright and talented individual, she was taken with classes and worked very hard to not only gain friends but also high marks so she might be able to attend to a career in Magic Law.
Likes: Li is a fan of books, learning and intellectual things, but also several personality traits. She likes people to be reliable and professional and everything done should have a purpose. She is fond of the written word and the law. Some odd facts about her likes would be a fondness for music and television.
Dislikes: She basically dislikes ignorance and idiocy. It isn’t acceptable in her mind and won’t be involved with it. She also isn’t a fan of frivolity or spontaneity for the most part, except when initiated by herself of course.
Special Abilities:
Hopes and Dreams: She would like to pursue a career in Salem’s Peak Town hall. She is mostly interested pursuing a career in Magic Law.
Wand: 8 inches, Ivy wood, Hippogriff Talon
Broom: Shooting Star 750
Pet: A male Snowy Owl named Ru (“Scholar”)
Writing Sample:
With her wand pointed outwards, Li Mei traveled down the corridors. She had forgotten her text book in the library and was trying to retrieve it. She needed it for the assignment she was going to do during breakfast. She had more than enough work to do during the day and her Practical Magic work had completely slipped her mind.
Biting on her lip, she shivered as she kept going. This wasn’t going to end well. Li never snuck out! She never tried to get out of the dorms when she didn’t have to and here she was sneaking around! She felt completely stupid, more ashamed that she had let it slip her mind than anything else. But, what could she do? She had to retrieve it at some point and what better time than the present?
It was just hard being so quiet. Thankfully, she tended to be quiet as long as she could manage it. And being little was always something she could handle. It was only a little way’s off and then she would go right back, no harm done! Yes, that would be quite fine. Li stopped short when she heard footsteps though. Her heart skipped a beat and she put her delicate hand over her chest, looking around.
Content that there was nothing going on, she continued moving down the hallway, only to stop once again. Only this time, it was not just for footsteps. Someone was stopping her! Mortified, Li Mei turned on her heel and looked helplessly at the Hall monitor who had found her wandering around. “What are you doing out here?” he scowled gruffly, putting his hands on his hips in an authoritative manner.
“I was just g-going back to the dorm. I had to go to the hospital wing,” she lied uneasily, holding up her arm to show a bandage that had been in place from an earlier run in with Ru (who had decided she didn’t pay enough attention to him and took it out on her poor arm). Of course, it didn’t seem as though her lie was being bought and she winced as he took away twenty points from her house. “Get back to bed,” he ordered in a stern voice and sent Li on her way. Li Mei ran as quickly as she could back towards the dorms, peering over her shoulder towards the direction of the library. That meant she’d have to be up extra early the next morning to get the book – hopefully the librarian would be in.
