Name: Hannah Constantia Rothschild, known as "Coco Rosha" (see history for further information)
Hannah- hebrew; "favour, grace"
Constantia- late roman; "constant, steadfast"
Age: 17
Year in Salem: Senior
Gender: Female
Birthday/Sign: April 4th 1980/Aries
Blood Type/Purity: 0 neg./ Halfblood Type 3
Family Members:
Annelie Goldstein (47), Mother [Muggleborn; German; Politician]
Edward Rothschild (50), Father [Pureblood; American; Secretary of Magic]
Adam Emanuel Rothschild (22), Brother [Halfblood; American/German; prof. Seeker, American National Quidditchteam]
Leah Patrizia Rothschild (14), Sister [Halfblood; American/German; Freshman at SWIM]
Appearance:
Personality:
Theodor Roosevelt once said about his daughter "I can be president of the United States or I can control Alice. I cannot possibly do both". These words sum up pretty well how Edward Rothschild would describe his oldest daughter and his relationship to her- only that she usually controls him when she isn't busy. Coco knows exactly what to say or do to get the (re-)action she wants- maybe one of the side effects of growing up in the world of politics.
Sadly enough, she likes to forget about her own abilities and sometimes even tricks herself. Although she is a pretty good liar, she hates lying and only lies when it is really REALLY necessary or when she's convinced the truth wouldn't do her counterpart any good.
The Rothschild's middle child is honest and caring, rather introverted and quite sensitive at times. She is a quiet person, not because she is shy but because she knows how meaningless words can be. She also fears that people would see her only as one of the presidents' children and not as an own, independent person and has difficulties to express her feelings which is why she hardly ever talks about herself.
Furthermore Coco fears changeand always searches for security, familiarity and the comfort of home.
Her willingness to fight for her beliefs no matter what was one of the most important things she learned from her parents.
One thing she believes in are gestures. And actions. And hugs. As it is - unlike words- something you can never take back.
Coco says things like "Did you know..." and random comments (always filled with some content, something that can be found in one of her endless lists) to change the topic or to break the silence- what usually seems rather lost and unsuitable.
Significant for Coco is also that she smiles a lot and has the ability to make dark days a little- with a hug, a friendly word or sometimes even cake.
Oh, and if I were you I would never underestimate a Rothschild.
History:
Sometimes life leads us to a place we do not want to be- and in our attempt to find our way back we get lost. The sky above us, filled with dark clouds that announce heavy rain would not help us. the ground we are standing on would not carry us anymore. Then, when you feel that you are at the deepest point of all and there seems to be no escape, something happens that makes you worth while again. For Edward Rothschild, a 21-year-old, very lost wizard and "hopeless mess", bumping into Annelie Goldstein, a 18-year-old, life-loving, loud and ambitious young German witch, was such a something. Their story, however, is another one and shall not be told today. All we need to know is that at this very moment (involving a pink umbrella, Indian tea and German cookies) was brought together what would soon be one of the wizarding world's most powerful couples.
Twelve years and precisely two days, 21 hours and 49 minutes after this meeting, Hannah Constantia Rothschild, second child and first daughter of Annelie and Edward Rothschild, was born.
Coco grew up to learn the world was made off nothing but possibilities and life was about what you made of those possibilities. Her mother was one of the first women who managed the unusual stunt of being a mother and a business woman without ever missing anything out, especially not in her childrens' lives. "Problems are the salt in the soup" or "When you want to have breakfast in bed, sleep in the kitchen", the soft noise of pearls being gently pulled out their box to shimmer once more on a beautiful neck, the sound of her mumbling father trying to practice his speeches while shaving and the intense smell of good, lovingly prepared food formed her childhood.
Then, two years before Coco was going to start at the Salem Witches Institute of Magic, life got busy.
Her father became the Secretary of Magic and Coco found herself captured between the feeling of pride and the disapproval of all the changes. Suddenly her mother stopped cooking to be more with her father and support him, suddenly there was a Nanny who looked after her younger sister Leah and she was sent to a wizarding school in Germany to get her out of the spotlight and make her life a bit easier. It was back then when Coco decided that change happened and was necessary, but not necessarily good. Especially when "change" meant leaving home to face her last years of school- far away from a home that was changing more and more.
"Some think it's holding that makes one strong;
sometimes it's letting go."
Bravery (the overcoming of fear) has many faces. For some people it's the step into thin air, the jump off a bridge with nothing but a rope around their feet and for some it is a simple letter.
For Coco it was going to school, leaving home after being home-schooled for so long. On top of all there was the awareness that she wouldn't be able to talk about home and her family when it could be avoided- maybe the most difficult of all things. Concerned about her security her parents signed her in as "Constance Rosha"; hoping her background would never stand between her and others. Only the Dean had been informed to make sure at least someone had an eye on Coco and would be able to handle "unusual situations of any kind" accordingly and sub rosa.
All those fears and concerns, however, turned out to be quite unnecessary. School soon became a nice place to be and things worked out just fine. Coco was (usually) a hard-working student who rarely forgot her homework (thanks to her self-discipline) and although her grades weren't very outstanding, she was good at school.
So her first year went by, quickly followed by her second, uneventful and incident-free. This was going to change.
Going home became the new difficulty in Coco's life. Home didn't quite feel like home anymore. She felt herself being devided: On the one side there was Hannah Rothschild, the secretary's mysterious middle child who visited a German wizarding school and who was of some interest for the press (as there existed no picture of her whatsoever). On the other side there was Coco Rosha, the girl who made neverending lists about anything and everything that came along and played Quidditch like a boy (a tiny bit aggressive, that is).
This side grew and grew, built up another life far away from Hannah Rothschild- and every summer this girl would be left behind and with her all her friends.
This time, however, she would not come back.
With her 14th birthday coming and going, Coco was now old enough to visit the Salem Witches Institute of Magic to "enjoy" the last four years of her education in the United States. Although both her mother and her did not approve, her father insisted on the change, and (-and this was rarely enough-) won the family argument.
While the move to Germany had been surprisingly easy, being a Freshman at SWIM was like running into a closed door for her. It hurt- a lot. She had lived in America all her life and loved it, but all of the sudden it seemed so strange, so different to everything she has ever seen. It was the simple crossing of an ocean to go back home, but it felt like entering another world, far away from her own. Coco missed her friends, the German pessimism and their depressing view of life and there was not one week her parents, her brother and even her little sister were in the newspaper for whatever reason. People seemed so interested in her family, it was even harder for her to not talk about them, about home, about those she loved. But she also understood the point in being inkognito and was grateful for this opportunity to be just herself. So she kept her private life to herself as much as possible and , eventually, things worked out. Her grades who had suffered extremly in the first weeks, got better and better and Germany, home sickness and unsociability quickly became a distant part of her past.
Another two years of a normal teenaged witch passed by and they couldn't have been better. No wait- they could.
Summer 1996 happened what every father fears: Coco fell in love.
It had started so innocently, her sending owls to some school friends over summer to keep in touch, when she suddenly appeared in her father's office to ask if she could visit one of her friends for a week or so and by the time he realized what he had approved, she already stood on Andrew Parker's doormat.
It was one of those summers one still remembered when one was eighty or ninety.
Although her grandparents were Muggles and her mother had made sure her children would get to know both worlds, being with Andy's family turned out to be quite new and exciting. His family was so much different to her own, their every day-life nothing like hers- and she loved it. Loved the trips out with the boat, loved to learn to fish, loved helping with the cooking, loved Andy.
(The last bit nearly made Edward Rothschild's heart stop, but that is another story)
For the first time since she visited SWIM she felt able to talk to someone about her family, about herself, without being judged.
The start of her junior year passed by quickly, and the sky of life still seemed cloudless. Until one night in November the school was attacked and life changed again. It was beyond her grasp why anyone would do such a thing, why anyone would want to hurt innocent people, frighten them, destroy.
Her father's reaction, however, was so unexpected it was beyond anything. While everyone was worried about the attacked Hall Monitors, about friends and whatever the morning sun would reveal, Coco was picked up and escorted to her family's home before she even got the chance to realize what had happened in the night. Stepping through the door she could almost smell the tension, the fear in the air where she usually noticed that her mother made coffee for non-sleepers. Shouting, her father in rage, her mother constantly hugging her, people coming and going to see if she was alright. In those days, filled with chaos, anger and concern, Constantia Rosha died- and Coco felt for the first time what it meant to be a daughter of the secretary. Although it was hard for her to understand why it was so important to get her out of the school as quickly as possibly, why she was taken care of while others needed so much more help, she got the chance to learn more about the situation she was sent away from four years ago and to catch up with everything to become the person she was, not the person she pretended to be. This took time, lots of time.
Hours became days, days became weeks and, nearly, months.
Her father had made it clear that she would not go back to SWIM no matter what, made arrangements for her to be home-schooled again or maybe even to go back to Germany. Coco, exhausted from everything that was going on around her, could not find the energy to fight and accepted his decision- for now. After all it wasn't clear if SWIM reopened yet. Knowing the mortality of her relationship to Andy she stopped replying to his letters, kept her distance and then broke up with him.
And, eventually, weeks became months.
Living at home, going to school in your library/living room and spending your whole time at home can kill. Or at least make you sick.
Luckily Coco had a mother who knew this and kept on coming up with brilliant plans, ideas and lists what she could do. Annelie spent hours convincing daughter and husband that everything they wanted was spending time with each other, going on official meetings or receptions (whatever came up), giving interviews, going to important Quidditch matches to watch Adam play and so on and so on.
But all this could not break the silence, could not take away the hours of boredom, the lack of friends, the longing for...school. Yes, oddly enough, Coco suddenly wanted to go back to school and when she found out SWIM reopened she knew she'd do anything to get back- and her sister, who just turned 14, would come with her.
Her father would not let that happen, so much was for sure, unless he had no choice. The question was....what could force him to give in and send his daughters to the school again?
The answer to this question came short after the official beginning of the school year, where hope nearly died and Coco had had started to get used to the thought she'd not leave so soon. Her father gave a random press conference and somehow the attack and the reopening of SWIM was mentioned. The journalist who then asked if Edward Rothschild would sent his daughter back to school, had no idea how much it took Coco to not jump over and kiss him. Instead she nearly jumped next to her father, taking over instantly and making some sort of speech about setting examples, not showing fear, not being different than others and that the staying away from SWIM would just let the Neo-Death Eaters think that they won. No, her father wouldn't do that. Never. In fact, he'd send both his daughters back, "right Daddy?"
So Coco Rothschild returned to school, two weeks after everyone else and with her sister in her coat-tails.
She has no idea what to expect, but whatever happens she tries to believe it will be fine in the end. For time passes by and changes the world, no matter how hard we try to fight it.
Likes: With her parents being both into politics, Coco knows about and loves the power of speech and words. Wherever she goes she carries a small notebook and a feather, collecting words, wordings and quotes. She particularly likes weird, complicated words or made-up words. Psychological warfare and the affect of liquids to a being (potions), walking through the rain, flying, noise, colors, her family and making lists make her life and there passes not one day where she doesn't say "That's totally Shmu". Apart from that she is a fan of the "German cuisine", Quidditch and elephants (because they can waggle their ears)
Dislikes: Her name, sitting around, baking, people who talk without thinking, being ill, running out of parchment or ink, headaches or any disturbing kind of pain/illness.
Best Subject: Alchemy
Special Abilities: None
Hopes and Dreams: Through out the summer Coco accompanied her father to many receptions, festivities and miscellanious official meetings her mother normally would have attended. Her parents thought it would be the best was to cheer her up after the attack on SWIM and to introduce her to the "political parquet" hoping she would follow her parents' footsteps and choose a political career.
Coco, however, does not like the thought of being a representative. She prefers standing in the background and sees herself more as an observer and supporter. In addition, Coco is a very family-oriented person and dreams of getting married and having children, of being a bit of a "stay at home" mum, like her own mother.
Wand:9 3/4", Dragon Heartstring, Wenge Wood (left handed)
Description(general):
Wenge - or Millettia Laurentii - is an African wood and one of the most finest woods in the world. Its color can be anything from coffee-brown to black and it is heavy and quite hard, but elastic. Wenge has a beamless radiance and a rough structure.
Description(specific):
The handle is slightly bell-shaped and adorned with flower ornaments, the end is round and decorated with her initials.
Broom: Firebolt
Pet: Owl
Name: Arianna
Type: Northern Hawk Owl, "Surnia ulula caparoch" (subspecies with darker feathering)
Age: 14 (average age: 8, 4; fed with special potion that slows down the aging process of animals)
Physical Description: The Northern Hawk Owl has more a falcon shape than a typical owl shape. The head is flattened and the tail is extraordinary long and bottoms out cuneiform.
Feathering: the face of this owl is typically bright, though Arianna`s is more of a rich grey. The back is darkbrown to black with white spots - but again: Arianna has hardly any spots and is of a darker kind- while the bottom part is white with narrow, dark grey-brown stripes (diagonally). This is absolutely significant for the Northern Hawk Owl and it makes it easy to recognise her even while flying. The Iris is lemon yellow, the pecker soft lemon.
Attributes: Also significant for this species is the fact they hunt exclusively during the day-time and dawn and that their flying abilities are in high gears.

Silent and stupid.
Coco tried to find other words for whatever she was doing here, out of bed, breaking rules in her azure cashmere pajamas, slippers - not ANY slippers, no, those looked like elephants, huge, pink and grey elephants with a black and a white bow around their necks- her pearls around the neck and the hair pinned up neatly. So -basically. if something happened to her (like getting caught by a Hall Monitor or running into a Neo-Death Eater or whoever out there was a potential danger for girls wearing elephant slippers called Ellie and Phanty) she'd at least look acceptable. It could be compared with one of those days you can just not get into a car accident because your underwear doesn't match. True, this comparison was random and she couldn't care less what she looked like, but right now Coco's thoughts were focused on Leah and how to get to her.
Wandering through the halls in the middle of the night so short after something bad happened seemed a little less irresponsible and stupid when your little sister was not well.
And she really wasn't. Unlike Coco who had found it easy to adept, Leah had difficulties to fit in after being home-schooled all her life. Suddenly she wasn't the center of the teacher's attention, there wer e rules, guidelines, schedules and another person in her bedroom. HER bedroom.
Little Leah was homesick, and her mother (having lost her last baby to SWIM) wasn't really of any help. So Coco had promised to look after her when she could. Like...now was a good time.
"You!Stop right there!" Or maybe not.
Oopsy-daisy. Hall Monitor.
She slowly turned around on Ellie, swinging Phanty along, and waved shortly. "Hey," she said casually, as if she was meeting him randomly on a nice late summer afternoon,"how is it going?"
Ah, that was not going to work, was it? She had to think of something and she had to think fast. Maybe she could make Leah very, very ill and herself very, very concerned, so he'd feel bad and let her go.
If that didn't help she could always break out into tears....

Description(general):
Wenge - or Millettia Laurentii - is an African wood and one of the most finest woods in the world. Its color can be anything from coffee-brown to black and it is heavy and quite hard, but elastic. Wenge has a beamless radiance and a rough structure.
Description(specific):
