Shoving her trunk at the edge of the bed, Li Mei let out a heavy groan. That thing was heavier than she had anticipated. Of course, she was a tiny girl and quite small for a seventeen year old. Since the trunk was around twenty-five pounds, it seemed quite heavy to her. Looking to Ru, sitting on the poster of her bed, Li Mei sighed, plopping down on the hood of her trunk.
"Yes, I know, I shouldn't get exhausted by such small work," she said - quite irritated at the fact a bird was basically bringing it to her attention by hooting at her. The snow white bird's big amber eyes implored her to stop making excuses and Li Mei whimpered slightly. Sometimes animals were too smart for their own good. "But it's heavy," she countered as he hooted again. Rolling her eyes, she ran her fingers over his white and black flecked feathers and chuckled.
He gently nipped her fingers with his hard beak and she sighed. "I'm going to keep going." Pushing herself up from her make-shift seat on the top of the trunk, she flipped open the lid and looked inside. She could put her books on a shelf and start organizing her clothes as she wanted. Moving all of her books, including the ones in Chinese, she got to work on her clothes.
Looking at the bright colored patterns and soft fabrics, she smiled. Her parents never even thought of denying her what she wanted especially in that line of things. She had every single thing she could imagine and that was alright by her. As she began to pull her clothes out, she heard the door open. Without even bothering to look over her shoulder, she greeted the person walking in - "Hey there. I'm Li Mei, and I'm assuming you're my roomie, unless of course - you have the wrong number. This is 149," she chuckled softly, pulling out a bright red silk shirt, holding it up for appraisal. She wanted to make sure it wasn't ripped or torn!

Elaina had gotten to the room early, which was of course no surprise. She was just beginning to unpack her neatly folded shirts as Li walked in. At first Elaina was a bit startled having not expected anyone to come in right away. She looke to Li with a sigh of reliefe, "Woah... you scared me." she said with a laugh. "I'm Elaina West, nice to meet you." she paused and looked over the red shirt that Li was holding up, "Nice shirt." she said in a very complementory tone.
Sometimes Elaina would complement shirts or clothing for that matter, but she felt that it was important to make a good impression on her new room mate. A brisk smile skirted across her lips as she continued to arrange her shirts in an orderly fashion. If she saw one that wasn't folded properly she made sure to refold it exactly to her standards. Such an odd individual she could be at times.
Elaina finally finished unloading all of her shirts from the trunk that she had them in and looked back over to Li, "Do you need help with anything? I'd be glad to assist." she offered. For a moment Elaina stopped to think about her options. Help the room mate, or help herself... but she decided to go with the first anyways. It would be the better thing to do.
Even though Elaina's mind was filled with silly girlish fantasies of pillow fights and alte night story telling, she had to remind herself that childhood was over and it was time to focus on grades and school work. Elaina hated to think that she wouldn't be able to pass. Then again, Elaina was known for crossing the line every now and then.

"A pleasure Elaina," Li Mei responded happily, settling down the red silk shirt with a smile. She loved her clothes, made sure to keep them nice and not ruin them so they could be used once again without rips, tears, or stains. She never leant out her things either, so her roommate best not have any inclination that she was going to borrow any of Li Mei's clothes. "Oh, thanks!" Li replied proudly, continuing to look at her clothing as she unpacked. She was fond of clothes.
She could shop for hours, years, if she wanted to - not many people would guess that if they were to take a face value of her. She wasn't the type of girl that would be seen out in the mall or on Rodeo Drive with sunglasses and stilettos window-shopping. But, on her breaks and when school wasn't forfront on her mind, she did like to splurge and only on the best. As she pulled out a few pairs of shoes, lining them up on the ground, she grinned at her collection. She had many more all shrunk in a box, but these were her special shoes and she wouldn't dare scuff up any of them.
When Elaina offered to help, Li shook her head. "That's alright, I got it," she assured her, tucking some pairs of pants into a drawer. She continued to hum as she took things out of the trunk and looked over to her roommate. She didn't really know this girl and it would probably be in Li's best interest to get to know her. Being roommates with someone for an entire year meant they would be spending a lot of time together and they were going to have to get to know one another sooner or later. Li would prefer sooner rather than later.
"What year are you in?" she asked simply at first as she organized clothes, being just about as particular as she noticed her roommate to be. The young lady was at least clean and organized, which Li could definetely respect. "I'm a senior myself," she let her know casually. She didn't really care what grade her roommate was in. She knew she had seen her around so she wasn't a freshman and that's all that really mattered to Li Mei in the first place. Freshmen tended to be nosy or messy, not exactly Li's idea of fun.

Elaina could tell that Li mei was proud of beign a senior. Who wouldn't? Elaina knew that she'd probably brag about it with every chance she got to. That and she would probably use her newly aquired powers in the food chain of schooling. It always seemd the same. Freshmen are picked on by everybody because they are at the very bottom of the food chain, sophomores get picked on by the junios and seniors because Sophomores aren't as low as the Freshmen, but are close.
The juniors, which Eliana is, would only be able to be scorned and picked on by the Seniors, but only by their choosing, and of course the Seniors, at the top of the food chain, are the top dogs. Elaina was well aware of that layout of schooling. It had really been like that in schools everywhere. Not to mention it was simply common sense.
None the less Elaina pushed her possible demise out of her mind and smiled, "I'm a junior, not quite a senior yet..." she said as she sat on her trunk to rest a little bit, "But when I do become a senior I plan to be the best... in my class that it." she said with a laugh. Elaina had high hopes for herself in school. She wanted litterally reach for the stars and grab one right out of the sky.
It always appealed to Elaina to do something that no one else had done before. Secretly, Elaina wanted to be famous one day, but to her that was even more farfetched than grabbing a star from the sky.

"Any roommate of mine would be the best," Li teased with a laugh. "Seriously, if you need any help with your work, just ask. I'd be happy to help." COntrary to what others thought, Li Mei was actually a very helpful girl. She liked to offer and would, if needed, step up and offer some extra understanding to certain subjects. She wasn't the best in everything, but history and alchemy, she was more than excellent and she could offer an extra hand if the need arose.
Sighing, Li Mei threw the rest of her clothes in the drawer and sat upon the top of her trunk, looking to Ru. He didn't seem happy with her treatment of her clothes and she rolled her eyes, pulling a treat out of her pocket and holding it between two fingers as his slick black beak slid between them and he took it before swallonwing it whole, cooing appreciation. "You better appreciate that," she chuckled, running her hand down the soft feathers of his back. She loved her owl, he was so exotic and pretty - although she would only call him handsome to his face, in fear of having to face his wrath.
Forgetting her manners, Li was suddenly reminded as Ru climbed onto her shoulder, using his talons to give her a quick squeeze. "Oh, forgive me. Elaina, this is Ru. He gets tempermental if he's not introduced quickly enough," she rolled her eyes at the bird and winked at Elaina when Ru picked at her hair. "He won't hurt you, he just likes to be fussy sometimes." Peeling him off her shoulder, she resituated the bird on the bed post and stood up once more, surveying the room. "Well, at least we got a comfortable room, right?"

Elaina smiled and took a bow, "'Ello Ru." she said curtly. "This is Plato..." she said as she let the white owl out of its cage. Plato climbed onto her wrist and hooted loudly. She winced at the sound of it. She loved her owl, but the hoot was a wee bit annoying to her. "Take it easy Plato. Meet Ru." she said as she gently rubbed Plato's feathers.
Plato hooted once more and flew to Elaina's trank, making itself comfortable. "Sorry... he can be a bit anti social at times. Can't you plato?" the owl hooted in response and Elaina shook her head slightly.

Li Mei chuckled softly. While Elaina's owl didn't seem very social at all, Ru was very social and wouldn't let such a disturbance go unnoted. He would be determined to be a social creature and make the roommate's bird the same way - she expected Ru would leave SWIM with a few less feathers than what he showed up with if he wanted to socialize with Plato, a most interesting and unsociable bird.
"Ru will socialize him a bit. He's a very social bird," she rubbed Ru's head as he cooed softly and Li grinned. He was also very changeable and was now in a good mood. Rolling her eyes at him, she took another treat out of her pocket and fed it to him, tossing one to Elaina, "A welcome present from Ru and I." Going back to her trunk, she tucked it in the front of the bed and shut the cover, sitting down on top of it to ensure it would lock (old trunks seldom locked the way they should have) and let out a sigh.
"But yes," she nodded, glad to be done with unpacking, "it's good to meet you and I hope this year turns out better than last year." She made a face at the thought of her old roommate, the one who wasn't coming back (thankfully!). "My roommate was in the same year as me and she thought it would be funny to smuggle cigarettes into our room. Thankfully I found them and reported her to our hall monitor or we both would have been in trouble. You don't smoke, do you?" she tilted her head to the side and regarded the girl. She didn't seem like the type, but then again, neither had Amy.
