[li] Hair Color and Style: Her hair is dark brown with lighter brown highlights. It's on the long side, although for her job it's frequently pulled back so it doesn't get in her way. When she's not working, she wears it down with minimal work, preferring to just let it fall the way it naturally does.
[/li][li] Eye Color: She has blue eyes that tend to shift from grey to green to blue, depending on what she's wearing. It's really a guessing game when people have blue eyes, you know.
[/li][li] Height and Build: Kalista is 5'2" with a rather average build. She's not thin, but she's not heavy either.
[/li][li] Regular clothing style: Usually wearing her own creations, Kalista tends to promote herself (along with the help of Charlie). But, when she's not wearing her own robes, she'll have a pair of jeans and some sort of semi-stylish but durable top on. One needs to be child concious when dressing.
[/li][li] Other characteristics: Kalista has a growth on her hip called Charlotte, or more commonly known as Charlie. She is blonde like her father, but has the soulful blue eyes of her mother. Small in stature, she is a sturdy little thing for the most part. Like any three year old, she refuses to stay clean and more often than not is running all over the place, which Kalista has to be quite careful of because of her lung condition.
[/li][/ul]
Personality:
Kalista is a dedicated woman and quite maternal. She likes to have things be homey and will offer a helping hand to anyone who needs it. Although, on the outside she might appear to be cold and quite unfriendly, that's truly the opposite of what she actually is. Kalista is really a soft person and sensitive to the needs of others. She is very in tune to herself as well and knows what she wants and when she wants it. She is flexible and willing to work with other people, but more often than not, she has a clear idea of how things are going to go. And in her mind, it is usually a happy ending.
She is optimistic and hopes to achieve a lot in her work, helping people who can't afford more expensive clothing like at Twillfit and Tattings Outlet. More often than not, she denounces their work as faulty because she seems to get so many robes from the place that are falling apart and have barely been used. But thanks to her own stitching and love of her work, she usually fixes them up better than before and sells them for basically half the price.
Genuinely, she is a wonderful and dedicated person. She loves family and is always willing to have people at the shop or her house just to have people around. That isn't to say she doesn't need her alone time, but more often than not she's looking for people to be around and with a three year old, it’s hard to manage that. In the way of family and friends, she is one to give. She loves unconditionally and seldom asks for things in return - however, she does expect some loyalty.
Of the bad traits Kalista has acquired, she can be untidy and disorganized. If wronged or insulted, she is one prone to sulking and moodiness, doting on insults and wondering how to fix them. Due to a romantic nature, she can be tricky at times, but can also show her loyalty and support for certain things. She is passionate about doing a good job with her work and handling her family. And with many skills in the way of being a people person and so eager to please, her work is generally well known and celebrated.
History:
Derrick Marcus and Carol Donnague are really the two people who start this history and without them, it could clearly not exist. They both had more than large families. The Marcus' were a family of seven and the Donnague were a family of six. This meant there was a lot of love and not a lot of space. But, with big enough hearts and kitchen tables, both families flourished, producing many fine witches and wizards. But, the meat of the matter is – a close-knit family and magic.
Derrick and Carol met each other during their fifth and sixth years at the Salem Institute. Derrick was a sixth year member of Cliodne house and Carol a fifth year of Merlin House. Both were on the quiet side, Carol more so and Derrick wanted to be a healer. Carol was enamored with him and his ideals of helping people and they began dating at the end of fifth and sixth years.
After their years at the Salem Institute, Derrick went for his training as a healer and Carol pursued a job in seamstress work at Best Wish under her Aunt Helen. Best Wish is traditionally a family business and has been in the Dannague family for generations. She became quite a good seamstress and she continued to see Derrick. When Derrick was twenty and Carol was nineteen, they were married on August 15, 1962.
One year into their marriage, they had their first son, Ryan Marcus (August 5, 1963). Carol and Derrick were more than overjoyed when Ryan was born and doted on him, teaching him all they could and instilling much knowledge in him. When Ryan was five, Carol found out she was pregnant once again, and overjoyed, Derrick and Carol approached the birth of their second child, Kalista Marcus (July 6, 1968). She was a charming, lovely baby and brought joy to them in more than one way.
Her intelligence and eagerness to learn pleased her parents and they were even more pleased as she showed an interest in learning about clothes and helping people. She would sew little dresses and robes for her dolls, and they were never the best robes or most expensive, but they were of her creation and she loved them. And then, when Kalista turned two, Hunter Marcus was born (November 10, 1970).
The three children were quite happy together, working and living with their magical parents and grandparents, although Grandma Doris wasn't a witch, the rest of the family practiced magic and were quite comfortable with it. And soon enough, it was time for the children to start entering school. Carol was going to home school them, but found that the shop was taking up much of her time and couldn't - so they attended public schooling and then a coven until it was time for their entry into the Salem Institute.
When Kalista entered the institute she was sorted into Merlin House, like her mother. Ryan was already in training for being a healer and Hunter was still too young to enter the Salem Institute, leaving Kalista to fair the fight alone. However, Kalista soaked up the atmosphere. She loved the area, loved the people, and was fascinated by everything she learned. Although she knew what she was going to be doing when she graduated, it never stopped her from learning all that she could.
When she was a sophomore, not only did Hunter enter school as a Merlin student, but she met Peter Dobbs, an Agrippa Junior. They met when he had a ripped robe which Kalista had expertly sewn together and thus began their relationship as friends. As time went on, Kalista found out more and more about Peter and genuinely liked him. He was smart, moderately handsome, and very nice. And they began dating at the end of her sophomore year. They continued to see one another through the summer and the rest of school.
Being sweet and kind, Kalista was fond of teachers and other students and they were fond of her. She never really sought out confrontation. Indeed, she was quite non-confrontational and took pride in the fact she never sought out the conflict some people craved. While in Salem, Kalista learned a lot about being a helpful and good person, usually doting on those weren't as well off or as lucky as she was. She offered her services to those that craved it and she was never one to turn down someone who needed a stitch up job.
Kalista herself followed after her mother and began working in Best Wish right after graduation. She loved the work and was quite happy with helping people and providing affordable, in-decent shape robes for those that could not afford the expensive ones offered in other areas. Kalista received Noah, her Bernese mountain dog, for her twenty-fourth birthday as a present from Peter and she quickly trained him to be a shoplifting detector and a good companion. Although he's slightly confused over his commands, he can be scary when he needs to be (only to those he does not trust or like), and convinces anyone to think twice about stealing from Best Wish.
Their relationship continued as time went on and as Peter went on to become a big man in the Wizarding First National Bank, Kalista remained doing her work for Best Wish. During this time, the relationship seemed to be taking a serious turn and everyone in the family, including the protective brothers and father, were expecting a proposal at any time. However, in August 1993, Peter was being relocated to Britain with a higher position in Gringott's Wizarding Bank.
It was a major upset in Kalista’s life. He had chosen work over her and worse yet, she was pregnant. But, Peter didn’t want to even think of it. His work was foremost in his mind and Kalista and a family wasn’t. Within the week, Peter was gone and Kalista needed a different support system.
Her mother and father played a huge role in picking up the pieces as well as helping through the rough patch. But, always an optimist, or at least attempting to be, Kalista did her best to pull through and do best with what she had. This meant that her parents, her brother’s, their new wives and even some of their children had to help pull some weight around.
No one minded helping Kalista and April 19, 1994; Charlotte Marcus was born. She was affectionately given the nickname Charlie by Grandpa Derrick. Her cousins, aunts, and uncles were all excited to welcome her into the world. Kalista quickly became a top notch single mother and with the help of her parents, succeeds in doing the best she can with little Charlie.
When she turned six months old, Kalista was informed that she had a small lung condition and would suffer from asthma for the rest of his life. But, Kalista bravely took on the challenge and just made sure she watched him even more closely. Charlie is basically the center of Kalista’s world and most of her good work is done for her.
Her own cousins and sister-in-laws watch Charlie for her when she has a lot of work to do, but usually she manages even while watching the scamp. Although she’ll never play professionally, Charlie loves quidditch and all things about it, healthy endorsed by her older cousins and uncles. At the current time, Kalista is working hard and just devoting herself to raising her daughter and being with her family. After all, as she believes, when it comes down to it – they’re the only ones you really have.
Likes: Kalista has a number of hobbies. She loves to sew, even outside of her job and she's quite fond of music and singing. She loves her family and the closeness they share with one another. She's a homebody and loves being around Charlie, her nieces, and nephews. She loves throwing parties and hosting things where she can cook and have fun. Oh, and she absolutely adores dogs.
Dislikes: On the other side, Kalista is not a fan of being aggravated. She likes things to be easy and simple, complicated and confusing things make her anxious and nervous, thusly leading to frustration. She also hates failing and is determined to get things right the first time - her own way. She hates being told what to do or being forced into things. But, she usually puts things that bother her behind her, for Charlotte’s sake.
Special Abilities: She's an excellent seamstress, business owner, and mother, but there's nothing really exceptional about her outside of that.
Wand: Her wand is nine inches and made of flexible birch wood. The core is of unicorn tail hair and her name is elegantly carved in the rounded handle.
Broom: N/A
Pet: A giant Bernese Mountain Dog named Noah. (He is not only a companion but helps watch the shop for shoplifters. ) A Picture of Noah and if you count a three year, she has Charlie too.

Walking around the shop, Kalista was quite proud of herself. Charlie was down for a nap and everything was running smoothly. Some robes were being mended (magically, of course) and the place was quiet. She could finally just sit down! It seemed that like most mothers, Kalista never got to sit down! She was constantly up and fixing food, or playing, or doing something for the shop, and to top it all off, her mother was on a vacation day.
Her parents had decided to take a small vacation and that meant Kalista had the shop to herself and Charlie hadn’t been feeling well, so that meant she would have to have her with her until she was sure Charlotte was alright. The sweet little girl was having some trouble with her sleeping, and that meant Kalista had trouble sleeping as well, probably even more so than Charlie herself. After all, a worried mother never slept soundly. Kal knew she would have to get up and check on her in a few moments, but for the time being she just needed a rest.
The soothing sound of the needles through fabric almost made her fall asleep herself, but as soon as she heard a noise, she was up. It wasn’t a small noise either. It sounded like a crash. It didn’t register at first, but as soon as the thought struck her mind, she breathed “Charlie!” and in a split second she ran to the backroom to check on the toddler who she had thought to be happily sleeping. But, Charlie was not innocently sleeping, no – it was more horrifying than Kalista could have thought.
“Oops,” was all the small child could afford, before having to smile adorably to save herself. Charlie was sitting on the floor, a bucket of pins and needles as well as dye was lying on the floor and the dye was quickly spreading all over her carpet, Charlie’s clothes, and the boxes that held donations from other families. Carefully lifting Charlotte from the floor, Kalista frowned at the smiling child, who appeared to be exhilarated by the crashing noise and red dye spreading all over the floor.
Repressing the urge to swear, Kal sat Charlie down on the cot and grabbed her wand out of her pocket, quickly performing a cleaning charm on the entire place. Things zipped around (out of reach of the child) and Kal groaned. The dye didn’t remove itself from the carpet, it merely dried. It was permanent. Pulling the box from underneath the table which had held the nails and dye on it, she looked at the clothing inside.
The top layers were alright, but the things on the bottom were ruined. Patches and red and brownish areas were already starting to accumulate. And this had been a good batch; barely any patching up had been needed, just a few worn out elbows. Taking out what she could salvage, she dismissed the rest of the box with a flick of her wand. Sitting on the ruined carpet, Kalista sighed, running a hand through her hair.
“Looks like someone’s getting a bad batch of clothes,” she said to Charlie, who didn’t seem to care – already distracted by her stuffed Pegasus, “not that you won’t get them dirty anyway,” she laughed softly and kissed the little girl’s forehead. She could never stay mad at Charlie, especially when she was cuddling with her toy pony. The little girl looked perplexed for a moment before pushing herself off the cot, walking after her mother who was headed to the main room.
“Mommy?” she asked with her big blue eyes even brighter and larger than usual, her stuffed Pegasus hanging by her side by one hoof, clasped in the tiny girl’s hand.
“What love?” Kalista asked, weary of that look on her face and the cute way she puffed out her lip when she wanted something.
“I’m hungry.”
