The Beginnings of War
Enter the Son of Voldemort
Dante Skiander Bramali made his appearance in the middle of 1996, then a fresh faced young man of 18. Freshly graduated from Durmstrang, Dante traveled to England with one goal on his mind, to join the Death Eaters. His vicious and ambitious ways earned him an honorary spot in the inner circle, although he was oft ignored and treated as a child by the elder members. Not letting it bother him, for the Dark Lords approval was far more important then that of his fellow Death Eaters, Dante did his missions with silence and a sneer. Although he was too new to be a favorite, he was looked upon as an aspiring protege of Voldemorts.
This would not last long of course. After doing his part to take over Hogwarts in late 1997, Dante found himself facing the fact that his mentor and idol was not as strong as they previous thought. His use of Horcrux's was careless in Dante's mind, and he was foolish enough to think that Potter wasn't a threat. When it came time to attack the school, Dante turned his back on his 'friends' and fled through the forest. While doing so, he stumbled upon what seemed to be a forgotten bit of gold, trampled by the giants advancing toward the school. It was a shatter snitch and within it was a broken ring. Upon touching it, Dante realized that it held great power, and although he didn't know what sort of power, he knew it would help him accomplish his ambitions. So he took it and fled the country, taking refuge across the sea in the United Federation of Mystics.
The Rise of the Neo Death-Eaters
Upon settling in the UFM, Dante went about finding the history of the ring. he discovered after years of research that the ring belonged to Voldemorts grandfather, and was part of the Deathly Hallows. At first he hoped to find the Hallows and bring them together to make himself the Defeater of Death. To succeed where Voldemort did not. But alas, through his studies, he would discover that in all probability the third piece of the Hallows, the cloak that made all invisible, was in the hands of none other then Harry Potter. Not only that, but the Elder Wand was useless to him unless he killed Potter. Neither news was good news, for Dante knew his limitations, unlike Voldemort, and he knew Potter was a force to be reckoned with. He decided the ring would serve one purpose, and that was to find another way to become immortal.
During his trips around America, Dante met Otto Nox, a rather infamous Pureblood that had once aspired to spread Voldemorts power to the west. Otto immediately recognized the younger man as far more insidiously ambitious then he was, and quickly offered his support in any means necessary. Following him was his wife Isabella and their three children, Casper, Cassandra and Cassiopeia. They would make up the first group of Neo Death-Eaters and remain the closest to Dante.
Otto proved to be a liability however. He was a hot headed and rash man who wanted to attack muggles right away, regardless of timing. Dante became worried that this would harm his slow moving but ultimately successful plans, so he allowed the Nox Patriarch to kill a family of muggles like he wished. Unfortunately for Otto, this would also land him in Azkaban, for Dante made no moves to guard him from arrest. The Nox's do not realize that Dante was the one who sent him off, so they remain doggedly loyal. Casper, a young man only a year Dante's junior, took his fathers place. The two hit it off superbly, and began to make plans.
By late 2006 they had raised enough members to form a small but fearsome army. Named in honor to Voldemort, the Neo Death-Eaters were a ragtag group of Dark Arts enthusiasts from the south and Blue Blooded purists from the north. Though they were hardly large enough to take on the entire UFM army, Dante had already planted spies in both the Government and the oldest institution in wizarding America, The Salem Witches Institute. They would send a warning.
The Spell Heard Round the World
November 25th 2006 was a devastating day for the UFM. The students at the Salem Witches Institute had just gotten over their yearly Harvest Festival and were barely getting back to their studies when the rarely used warning bells echoed through the school. They barely had chance to react when explosions destroyed a good part of the front entrance, followed by the onslaught of masked figures in black capes shooting Forbidden spells in any direction the students ran. It was pure chaos in broad daylight.
Gerald Crantz, the current Dean of the school and a muggleborn to boot, arrived on the scene to protect his students the best he could. He was followed shortly by his Vice Dean, Gabrielle Blagden, and a good part of his teachers. They fought diligently to save the school, chasing the attackers into the woods while the other half of the teachers took the students to safety and provided first aid to the wounded.
The list of the dead was small, thanks to the staffs efforts, but it was still a shock to the once peaceful community of Salem's Peak. The school had never in its almost 400 year history, ever been attacked. Their peace was shattered even more when it was revealed that among the dead was the esteemed Dean Crantz, who had been famous in the UFM for his fight for Muggleborn rights. His death elevated Gabrielle Blagden to Dean, a spot she took with graceful stoicness, and she immediately set about healing the schools now tattered reputation.
The Gathering Nightmare
The attack on the school was just the beginning and the citizens of the UFM knew it. At first, they trusted the government to protect them, but as the attacks mounted, many of those who trusted found it waning. It was a common, and correct, belief that the UFM government was riddled with Neo DE's, pulling the strings from the back. Many remained faithful to the government, their trust held only by the efforts of the Field auror head, Xirtix Celestine, and those Aurors loyal to him.
Those who's faith were permanently severed found their place in the Revere Society, a group of freedom fighters that were akin to the Order of the Phoenix but far more ruthless. Headed by an ex-Auror who didn't like the corruption she was seeing in the government, the Revere Society is made up of everything from your average joe to bounty hunters to government officials tired of the destruction of their once cherish institution.
And then there came the Loyalists, the Heirs of Voldemort. Headed by another Death Eater the survived the final battle, Judas Morderisch, the Loyalists are a group of former Death-Eaters loyal to the memory of Voldemort and saving it from being destroyed by Dante. They want a war as well, but not under another's banner, and they won't rest until Dante and his ragtag group of misfits are destroyed.
And thus begins July 2007, a country on the nervous brink of war and it's people torn in two. Families don't know who is one who's side in their own household and children are being raised with the fear of another attack at their heels. Thus is the story of the United Federation of Mystics, the American Wizarding Revolution.
