I'm curious if Felicity might know Emma from her grandmother's attempt to 'introduce her into society' and whatnot. Especially if Felicity's grandmother knew Emma's grandmother from Britain, or even Emma's own family in Boston.
Although I'm not sure where that would put Emma on the friends tree, I think they could have an association of some sort.

Josh I'll put you on say hi in the hallway but nothing more type of friends for now. You can always move up Emma I like that. Felicity's Grandmother lives in France but she could have met Emma's Grandmother and they are close friends thus introduing their granddaughters in both societies? Perhaps Emma's family is a family friend? So while Emma and Felicity are not too close they still know each other. Embarssing owls are sent back and forth.

Having their families be friends would work. Sending owls would work, but I don't think they'd be best friends. Felicity wasn't fond of 'society' either, was she? I think as they both represent a bit of home, they wouldn't be too keen on being best friends. More like good acquaintances.
Or if they were good friends, they would each have nothing to do with how it was back home. Because Emma sees it as two seperate worlds, home and SWIM, and she does not want a connection between the two. Does that make sense?

No Felicity didn't like that world very much. They wouldn't be good friends but would talk now and then. Perhaps mention something about home in passing if they had to. Maybe they banded together at a social event once.

Sounds good! I can imagine them clinging to each other amidst a sea of well-meaning relatives.

*looks around* There doesn't seem to be a 'friends with benefits' area.
Anything close to that? Ah well, I'll let you decide where to put Kevin.

Well Kevin, Felicity doesn't really have 'friends with benefits'. Plus she's dating President Parker. It would be funny though to have Kevin trying to kiss her in a thread. Perhaps they are friends but Kevin likes to make it more than that? Maybe they've shared a kiss when they were younger perhaps sophomore year?
