Welcome Teachers!
If you are reading this, then it is likely that you have been accepted as a SWIM teacher and are looking forward to starting up your classes. It is a good thing that you have come to this
thread, as it will outline several VERY important things that you as a teacher need to know.
Teaching Requirements
As a teacher you are expected to be very active and knowledgeable of the subject you are teaching. This means a few rules when it comes to staying a teacher:
1. You must actually create a lesson plan and submit it to the Dean or Vice Dean BEFORE starting a class. This way we can make sure that you are not teaching anything that is incorrect or not at the right level.
2. You have to post 4 lessons per each 3 months. This consists of a term.
3. You must follow the grading rules and use them. We made these so that the points and grades were all done as fairly and consistently as possible. We tried to make it as simple as possible so that you could use it with efficiency.
4. You need to at least attempt to teach the class. This means that you should research your topic (We have some very helpful links in the links section) and you should always post more then the beginning thread. If all you do is post the first thread and leave, the entire thread is considered invalid.
What happens to those who break the rules?
This is a job. And like all jobs, you go through a period where you are evaluated and your boss considers if you are up to the job or not. The same applies here.
Upon starting your classes, you will be monitored for 1 Term. The admins will read your class threads and look over your grading to see if you are following the rules. Those who fail to keep up with teaching will go on a 30 day probation period where they must catch up with their classes or face firing. During this time, they are not allowed to make any new characters.
If they still fail to keep up with the job after those 30 days, they will be fired. Firing doesn't mean banning or deletion. They simply lose their job and become a normal witch or wizard. They can find other jobs in town or even leave the country if they wish. If you are fired and want to create a different character, you may drop the ex-teacher character to create another. You may only create another teacher character 1 time. If that one is fired, then you may not attempt it again.
This covers only laziness however. If you have a family emergency or a problem where you cannot find the time to post for a short period, then we will provide a "substitute" for you until you can come back and take over your position. We naturally do not want anyone to forgo life for the RP, we just want to keep people from applying as teachers in order to be someone unique or "special" and then not follow the rules or be lazy about it.
Also, if you find that you will not ever be able to live up to the requirements, please let us know. We can stage some sort of reason for the character to leave or even die that way you don't stress yourself out with it. We would prefer that to someone simply dropping the character or quitting. If you decide to quit and don't wait to RP the reason for your characters absence, we reserve the right to kill your character off
Posting a Class
We do not require a specific format for posting a class, however, we do ask that you use something close to what we have:
Subject line: Name of Class, Lesson Number, Year
Example: Prescience, Lesson 3, Seniors
When starting your class, it is nice to provide a date, time and other relevant information at the beginning. And outdoor class should also have the weather.
You also can make a "Chalkboard" by using the Quote option and writing up the lesson for the day, notes and even homework.
Setting up your classroom.
We do not require a certain layout here either, however we do need certain information posted in a sticky thread in all of your boards.
- Lesson Plans (Must be approved)
- Schedule
- Rosters
- Homework Turn in (This is where the students will post the links to their homework)
Optional:
- Books needed
- Links for reference
- Grades
You can do them all in one thread (Except for the homework turn in) or separate, we do not care, as long as it is there and in a sticky thread for all to read
