For once in her life, Meg had been trying to be girly. She was trying to fix up her hair, which she had recently decided was too straight and plain. Deciding to do things the magical way for a change, she looked up a spell to make her hair nice and curly. She practiced the spell on her dog and it had been successful every time. Gypsy was a little angry with her, but Meg had given her a cookie and all had been forgiven.
She had done everything just right but when she looked in the mirror, her hair was not the brown that it used to be. It was still straight, just as it had been, but to her horror, it was red. While it was, yes, a little bouncier than it used to be, it was not brown. This couldn't be good. Meg wasn't going to take her chances with attempting to dye it again, so she grabbed a baseball cap off of her shelf and stuffed her hair up into it and then went to the only place that she could think of: the Celtic Coffee, where her boyfriend was working.
Having a boyfriend was a new thing for Meg, and she was nervous that Kyle wouldn't like her because of her new hair. It was a pretty stupid thought, but she didn't want to mess things up, especially when the relationship was so new. They'd only been dating for a few weeks, but nevertheless, Meg didn't know if Kyle would dump her for her uncoordinatedness with her wand.
Sighing, she pushed open the doors. She looked around for Kyle and when she didn't see him, Meg took a seat at one of the higher tables and sat up straight, craning her neck to look for him. Hopefully he'd notice her before she noticed him because she did not want to yell out and make an even bigger fool of herself.

Kyle let out a sigh as he sloshed hot water into yet another white coffee cup. Sometimes he wondered why he put up with this crap. Angry caffeine depraved customers, so much coffee that it made his head hurt and the hideous coffee stained cups he had to wash. Why did he put up with it?... Oh yeah, he had a sister. Kate was good about reminding him how much she had done for him his entire life, even if she wasn't intending to. It was quite annoying. But family was family, or so he reminded himself as he finished cleaning the last dirty cup in the bin. Shutting the water off, he grabbed up the bin and went back out to gather more used cups and plates.
It was a pleasant surprise too see that the place was virtually empty except for a few people lulling about by the windows. He looked around the room, his blue eyes searching for any dishes he had missed when they landed on a familiar profile. His heart skipped a beat and he smiled instantly upon seeing her sitting there. Why she had a hat on, he didn't know. Something about her looked different, but he couldn't quite place it. Whatever it was, he was sure it was a good different.
Putting down the bin and wiping his hands on his apron, he snuck up behind her silently. Once he was close enough, he slid his arms around her waist and pulled her back against his chest, nuzzling the soft skin at the base of her neck with a soft kiss. Running a couple more up the length of her neck, he pulled away enough to rest his chin on her shoulder, grinning at her. "Hey you... What are you doing here? And what..." He started, as he reached up to grab at her hat "...is with this hat? trying to hide something from me?"

Meg jumped when she felt someone touch her waist and then smiled when she saw that it was Kyle. Her eyes lit up and she turned around and put her hands on his shoulders. "You surprised me," Meg pointed out. Every time she was around Kyle, her day just got better, no matter how good or bad it had been. Since her hair was now a redheaded mess, she could honestly say that she was having a bad day. Somehow she didn't seem to mind, though. She nearly forgot, actually.
Once Kyle started reaching for her hat, she was reminded. She took one hand and put it on the top of her hat so that Kyle wouldn't take off the hat before she had warned him. "Well, I am kind of hiding something," she began slowly, sighing. "See, I was trying to do something with my hair and I'm kind of a spaz when it comes to magic. And, see, I was practicing on Gypsy and everything was all fine and good. But then something went terribly wrong." Taking in a deep breath, she wearily took off her baseball hat and let her newly and accidentally dyed hair cascade down.
"I know it's not the best but I'm too afraid to fix it," she said, pouting. She brought her brown eyes up to match Kyle's. "Is it that bad? Be honest." Meg had never been the self-cautious type. The only people that mattered to her were her family and now, Kyle, and their opinions were the only ones that counted to her. In asking for his honest opinion, Meg hoped that Kyle would be truthful but not brutal because she was having a bad enough day and didn't know if she could handle it. Kyle had never been jerky enough to do that, but she'd only been dating him for a few weeks.

"Well, I am kind of hiding something, See, I was trying to do something with my hair and I'm kind of a spaz when it comes to magic. And, see, I was practicing on Gypsy and everything was all fine and good. But then something went terribly wrong."
When she started with the 'I'm hiding something...' Kyle felt his heart jump to his throat. He hated people who hid things from him, even if it was something as silly as a bad hair day. All he could ever think about when someone said they were hiding something was that his mother had been killed for hiding something. It was not a pleasant comparism. But thankfully, as she went on, he realized it was nothing near to what his mother had hidden and he breathed a sigh of relief. The sigh became a chuckle as she pulled the hat off and let a bunch of fiery red waves come tumbling out. That was all? He shook his head.
"I know it's not the best but I'm too afraid to fix it, Is it that bad? Be honest."
Kyle snickered a little, trying not to bust up in gales of laughter as he said teasingly "... Ya should have conjured up a red nose and some bigass tennis shoes if you were going to do that..." He was only teasing her, it was just his nature to do so. Besides, it was a bad pun he just couldn't keep in.
Realizing she might take it the wrong way (Women were weird like that) Kyle quickly wrapped his arms around her and pinned her arms to the sides so she couldn't take a swing at him. Planting a firm kiss on her lips, he chuckled at her "Oh.. I am just kidding... You look cute like that. Hell you would look cute to me no matter what you did, even if you shaved it bald..." e paused and looked off to the side for a moment, pondering that image before looking back at her with a grimace "Nevermind... Bald would be a bit much for me... but I like red hair, so I don't see what you are so depressed about..."
Letting her go, he reached out and tugged on a strand of the flaming locks playfully "So... Did you want to do something tonight... Something that doesn't involve you doing my hair I hope…" Oh he couldn't help that last one, it was just too wide open.

"... Ya should have conjured up a red nose and some bigass tennis shoes if you were going to do that..."
Meg's eyes went wide. "Oh no," she muttered. She buried her face in Kyle's chest. Whenever she got embarrassed, she hid her face because then it felt like nobody could see her. What was she going to do with this mess of hair? Her face must be bright red. Perfect: it could match her hair. Clearly, Meg was not a happy person. She looked like a clown, according to Kyle! She looked up at him.
"Oh.. I am just kidding... You look cute like that. Hell you would look cute to me no matter what you did, even if you shaved it bald...Nevermind... Bald would be a bit much for me... but I like red hair, so I don't see what you are so depressed about..."
Relief poured over the new redhead. "Really?" she said in a tiny voice. She hadn't planned on going bald, but then again, she hadn't planned on becoming a redhead either. If Kyle liked the hair, well then Meg was fine with it. She hadn't really had the chance to really look at it. To be frank she didn't really care what her hair looked like, as long as certain people weren't ashamed of it. That was all that she'd really been worried about, she claimed inwardly.
"So... Did you want to do something tonight... Something that doesn't involve you doing my hair I hope…"
Glaring sarcastically, Meg pouted. She played with Kyle's much shorter hair. "I dunno. You'd look good with a perm, I think..." she said in jest. "Then again, maybe I'll wait a little while. I've had enough style for one day." Smirking, she smoothed Kyle's hair back. "Yeah, I could definitely do something. What did you have in mind?" Kyle always had better ideas for dates than Meg did. He was more romantic, which she found funny in a sense.

"I dunno. You'd look good with a perm, I think...yeah, I could definitely do something. What did you have in mind?"
Kyle tried to laugh, but when her hands touched his hair, it came out choked as he combined it with a purr of pleasure. He loved his hair being touched. As a child, it had been something his mother did to sooth him. But as he got older and his hormones kicked in, it had morphed into something new all together. He was enjoying the feeling of her fingers massaging his scalp so much that he almost missed what she said.
"Oh..." he said, pulling himself from his dream world and looking back into her eyes. Bending down, he kissed her nose softly before whispering something suggestive in her ear about them using the coffee bean sacks in the back room for a very unconventional use. He was jesting of course, but there was an element of truth in what he was saying. He would have loved to try that sometime, especially with the cute redhead in his arms.
"Sir. SIR! I would like some coffee now!" A loud and sharp voice brought him from the little world he was sharing with Meg and back into the real one. He then noticed the infuriated little silver haired woman glaring at him from the counter. Apparently she was waiting on him to give her something to drink. With a small sigh of irritation, Kyle looked at Meg apologetically. "Hold that thought... we can discuss it in a minute..."

When Kyle whispered something taboo in her ear, Meg giggled. It was completely risque, exactly something that Kyle would say. She hadn't told him, but she was a virgin. Really, Kyle was the first boyfriend she'd ever been serious about at all. Her brothers had told her everything she needed to know and more, but they always kept her far away from the boys so that she couldn't experiment. She thought of them now, and how they'd be acting if they were here and nearly cracked up laughing at the thought.
She kissed him on the lips, trying to hold out the kiss for as long as possible. They were at that time in a relationship where they didn't want to be away from each other for too long, just because it felt so much nicer to be together. Of course just when things were starting to get heated, real life called at them. A customer was demanding service, and Kyle had to go help her. He'd be back, he promised, but that didn't stop Meg from wishing that he'd be there with her as opposed to giving some old grandma some coffee.

As usual the old bag complained about everything he gave her. The tea was too hot. Too Bitter. And then after he added some sugar, too sweet. And don't forget that the scones were far too hard and stale (Despite having been baked that very morning by his sister herself). The old woman was asking for it, and had Kyle not been a man of upstanding chivalry, he would have provided it as well. But knowing her, she would have complained about that too.
When she finally left with the 3rd scone and 5th cup of tea, Kyle sighed in relief. Finally he could get back to more important things, mainly the little redhead sitting across the room. Walking over to her, he fell into a nearby chair and sighed, resting his head on his hand in defeat.
"Sometimes I really hate this job. I just want to quit and go.. I dunno... backpack across Europe... or... Swim in the Nile. You know... something crazy and fun..." He said softly, his eyes looking off in the distance. After a moment, he glanced back at her "Sounds like fun huh? Better then being stuck with nothing to do in this hellhole..."
Sitting up, he put his hands behind his head and gave her a weak smile, "But then, I guess that is a long ways off... What did you want to do today?"

Meg really did feel bad for Kyle. He didn't deserve to be treated so badly by this old bat. When he returned, Meg rubbed his knee, trying to be as caring as possible. She listened to him rant, and let him do it for as long as possible. "Hey, I like it here. You make good tea, no matter what some old witch says," Meg said innocently, trying her hardest to cheer him up. She'd never been good at cheering people up. Usually, she just relied on her charm to make people happier. Normally that didn't work but she could always dream.
"I don't know. I think you should pick. Anything you want," Meg offered, leaving the suggestion open for interpretation. Vagueness was key when it came to making dates, because oddly enough Kyle was far better at thinking up things to do. Meg liked to be the leader, yes, but not always. When it came to things like this it was better for someone else to take the reins. Lucky for her, Kyle never minded. At least, she hoped not. However, she was brewing up a plan. She remembered their different tastes from the first time they'd met: Meg liked baseball and Kyle liked sushi. Eating sushi at a baseball came seemed like a healthy compromise and she decided she'd leave that as a surprise for some sort of anniversary or something.
Another customer sauntered up to the counter, regrettably. Meg sighed and looked at Kyle, who would probably be less than delighted. The customer didn't look grumpy and love-deprived like the last one had but you couldn't really tell from the outside, could you? "Hey, tell you what -- I'll take this one. Don't tell your sister," Meg suggested. "I bet you she'll like me." Meg hopped off of the stool and walked over behind the counter. After taking the order -- just a scone and tea, both of which she knew how to retrieve. There had been an uprising of tea fans, apparently. She handed the products over to the girl and then got the money. Meg had the prices for those particular things memorized, since they were what she got every time that she came in here. The woman smiled and walked away, not before leaving a tip in the little tip jar however.
Meg put the money in the according places in the cash register and then snuck back over to Kyle, wrapping her arms around his waist. "I won the bet," She asked, looking up at his blue-grey eyes. "What's my prize" She hoped that Kyle's sister wouldn't care that Meg had made that little business transaction. It wasn't like she was jipping the family biz, she'd even successfully squeezed a tip out of the friendly woman. Meg smiled at Kyle, feeling perfectly contented.

"I don't know. I think you should pick. Anything you want,"
Kyle sighed internally. Dammit, and he was hoping she would pick this time. It wasn't that he was far from having ideas of dates, quite the contrary he was brimming with them, but they all seemed either immature and typical or far too expensive. He had thought about going skating or to the movies, but that just screamed juvenile and immature. Then he thought about a cruise to the Bahamas or skiing in the Appalachians, but that was far from what his meager budget would allow. Wondering why his creative juices weren't kicking in to come up with a date that both would enjoy, Kyle failed to notice the incoming customer until Meg suddenly spoke up.
"Hey, tell you what -- I'll take this one. Don't tell your sister, I bet you she'll like me."
Kyle opened his mouth to say something about how Kate would probably not appreciate it. It wasn't that his sister was mean or anything, but Kate liked to have her store run the way she wanted and Meg had no idea how that was. But then, Kate wasn't there and Meg seemed to be so excited about it that Kyle couldn't possibly turn her down. So shutting his mouth, he gave her a soft smile and a nod of approval.
As she walked over and started helping the lady, Kyle watched her in silence, resting his head on his hand so he could admire her.... transaction skills. Smiling softly, he finally tore his eyes from her and went back to washing the last remaining cups.
"I won the bet, What's my prize"
Having always been of a nervous temperament, Kyle jumped a little when she wrapped her arms around him. It was lucky she said something, or else he would have likely hit her not thinking it was her. That would not have been pretty.
Turning in her arms to look at her, he leaned forward and kissed her nose. "Bet? Who said I made a bet hmm?... I never said you couldn't get a tip... I knew she would like you..." Kyle chuckled, wrapping his arms around her shoulders and kissing her forehead before smiling jovially at her. ".... But I guess I have to pay up now... How about dinner? They finally fixed the kitchen and Giovanni offered us a free dinner for the inconvenience...."

He looked disappointed to be picking activities for tonight so since he was a meritorious boyfriend she decided she'd cut him some slack. "Okay, so this weekend, I have an idea of what we can do. I've kind of been thinking of it for a while. But it's a surprise," Meg informed him, keeping an air of mystery about her. Her date idea was actually surprisingly good, and she couldn't stop herself from being proud of it.
"That sounds good to me. Does that mean I have to dress up again?" Meg asked, trying to sway his answer by smiling innocently and giving him the ole puppy dog eyes. It wasn't that she minded dressing up so much, she just minded getting everything set up. It was annoying and time-consuming and Meg wasn't exactly sure how to do it the good and proper way. Luckily she had purchased a mirror that told her exactly what it thought of her outfit. At times the magic mirror could be a little cynical but all in all Meg did take its advice.
Too bad she hadn't bothered to look in that mirror when she'd made the big hair mistake earlier that morning. "So, you really like the red hair?" Meg asked, somewhat self-cautiously. She stroked her hair with one hand to make sure it was still as soft as it had been before she'd started to mess with it. Although it was, she figured that this red hair would just take some getting used to. Kyle may have liked it but Meg had been born with brown hair and had gotten quite used to it. This was very different.

"Okay, so this weekend, I have an idea of what we can do. I've kind of been thinking of it for a while. But it's a surprise,"
"Oh dear... Should I be frightened?" Kyle chuckled, mocking a look of fear while pulling away as if she were going to torture him. Naturally he was only kidding, and when he saw the look of pride on her face, and the attempt at remaining mysterious, he smiled and squeezed her again reassuringly.
"That sounds good to me. Does that mean I have to dress up again?"
He laughed and shook his head. "Yes silly... I want this to be our first formal fancy smanchy date... Candlelight’s and wine and dancing...." He said, kissing her nose playfully, "... And then we can ruin it all by getting piss drunk and dancing barefoot on the beach in our underwear... or nothing if you prefer..." He leaned forward and said the last part in a low but audible whisper. As he said that, he thought of a dress he had seen the week before in the windows of Twillfit and Tattings. It was a bit pricey, but he thought it would look fantastic on her, especially with her new shade of red. Grinning at her, his eyes twinkling suspiciously "... I will have a surprise for you before then....Just get your hair and stuff taken care of..."
"Oh and yes, I do like your hair..." He added, tugging on the red strands "It fits you I think. Very vibrant and lovely... Maybe I will do something with my hair as well... Maybe a mohawk?" He put his open palm on the top of his head and wiggled the fingers as though it were a spiked mohawk. The effect was more rooster then anything.

"Oh dear... Should I be frightened?"
With a smirk on her face, Meg glared. "No, you should not be frightened. If anything you should be excited." She winked. She had been brainstorming about this date since their first one. It wasn't that elaborate of a plan, but it was a cute one she thought. The date was personalized for them. They were both going to try something new. It would be fun.
Dancing was actually not that embarrassing for Meg. She had rhythm, she could keep a beat, and she wasn't a bad singer either. At least, she could carry a tune in a bucket. "Okay Underage Boy," she said, giving him a Look. She didn't really care though and this showed in her Look. He was close enough to 21 that he could drink, and besides, McGinnis was his last name so he had to have been drinking for some time already.
"... And then we can ruin it all by getting piss drunk and dancing barefoot on the beach in our underwear... or nothing if you prefer..."
"We'll see just how drunk I get," Meg laughed. She was used to the suggestive talking. Her brother Ryan had to have the dirtiest mind in the United States. His mind was perpetually in the gutter, always transforming what people to said into something sex-related. It was amusing to Meg the Virgin, and so occasionally she joined in.
She started to think about how she would do her hair. This gingery hair got her thinking. Straight wasn't the way to go, maybe she should attempt to go curly like she had originally tried to do. She'd have to ask her mom, as her mom was the one who liked that stuff. But that would involve informing her of the whole boyfriend thing and Meg wasn't prepared to do that just yet. She wanted to wait a while.
"Oh and yes, I do like your hair..." He added, tugging on the red strands "It fits you I think. Very vibrant and lovely... Maybe I will do something with my hair as well... Maybe a mohawk?"
Meg burst out laughing. She went on her tip-toes and started messing with Kyle's hair, trying to turn it into a mohawk, or a fohawk at least. "I think not," she said finally, a few giggles still escaping. "I think you would look like a peacock."

"I think not, I think you would look like a peacock."
"A Peacock!" Kyle started, his eyes going wide with mock horror as he lifted his hand to his chest as though he were insulted thouroughly. "A Peacock? Why... That... That is... So mean and untrue!" He sputtered, pulling away from her and turning his back on her in a huff.
"Just for that I shall not only do my hair in a mohawk, but dye it blue and green!" He shouted, starling the few customers in the small shop. A few snickered at his comment, most likely imagining him with said mohawk. One guy spit his coffee all over his newspaper in surprise, recieving a rather harsh burst of foul language from the guy pictured on the front page. The old lady from before just sniffed disdainfully. Kyle tried to hide his smile behind a pout and crossed his arms like a reprimanded child. He could hide the smile in his eyes as he tried to spit out spitefully "A lot of nerve coming from the girl who looks like she bought her hair from a fire damaged sale at the circus..." He muttered and stuck his tongue out at her.

"Oh, it is not untrue, just think about it--" Meg started, and then Kyle pulled away and turned his back. In jest, of course -- Meg knew that he would never be seriously upset about something so juvenile. He was not a drama queen, and hopefully never would be. That would royally suck, to put it bluntly.
"Just for that I shall not only do my hair in a mohawk, but dye it blue and green! A lot of nerve coming from the girl who looks like she bought her hair from a fire damaged sale at the circus..."
A few people turned and thought that they were really fighting and seemed intrigued but mostly annoyed. Meg raised her eyebrows and couldn't help the smile that was appearing on her face. She snuck up behind him and wrapped her arms around his waist and leaned against his arm. Since she was so short, only reached his upper arm, and that was if she was standing up straight. "Aww, I'd dye my hair to match." She winked. "And shows how much you know -- if my hair were fire damaged it would be black, stupid," she joked.

"Aww, I'd dye my hair to match. And shows how much you know -- if my hair were fire damaged it would be black, stupid,"
Kyle let out a short bark of laughter. Ah, he had hit the jackpot hadn't he? Sweet, funny and able to throw out a few zingers. He liked that in a woman. They could be the ugliest thing on earth and if they had those qualities he would probably fall head over heels. Maybe that made him a fool... but he preferred the term romantic. With Kevin being such a lady's man, someone had to be the good guy. It was a pair of shoes he was willing to fill.
"And you would look beautiful with any of those colors as well... You could be bald and I wouldn't think any less of you..." He said, reaching out and grasping her hand. Lifting it to his mouth he kissed it gently before pulling her to him. Leaning forward, he brushed his lips against hers in a soft kiss.
The doors jingle, followed by chattering voices growing nearer told him that the time had come, the lunch crowd. It would be busy for a while, and he would be kept away from his beloved for longer then he cared to bear. He hated this job sometimes.
Sighing, he turned to Meg "Looks like the rush is here... I need to take care of them..." He said a bit sadly as he pressed a firmer kiss to her lips. Letting her go, he smiled at her "Remember tonight... and be expecting something in the mail around 5 or so..."
Turning away, he walked over to the counter, lifting his hands he said loud and clear over the crowd. "Alright! I will get I will get you!... Just everyone line up! No Hexing... Cursing or pushing please!!!"
