Are you over 13?: I am indeed
Name: Esther Boothroyd
Age: 65
Gender: Female
Birthday/Sign: 19th of July, 1932/Cancer
Blood Type/Purity: Half blood
Appearance:
Esther is a bold person causing her clothing and presentation of herself to be bold. With short, wild and silvery grey hair, bright green piercing hawk like eyes and a long knobbly nose, she is well on the way to looking like someone’s terrifying grandmother. But what is a startling grandmother without the clothing? Yes, Esther is young for her age, and she adores wearing bright clothing. The term ‘A mutton dressed as lamb’ however springs to mind upon seeing the elderly woman.
Often sporting short, brightly coloured dresses, Esther has a love for showing off her body, however old it is becoming. It is apparent that she is not the young beautiful woman she once was, but Esther still loves to show herself off as in showing the world what she has got even though she is 65. Her favourite long crimson robe often is worn and most of the time, she lets a thin scarf of a bold colour hang around her slowly wrinkling neck.
She reaches a height of 5”8 and with heels enable her to be taller. Her body is slim and she is right to be proud of her figure at her age, but however her years are beginning to show. Thankfully, due to the fact that she has never given birth, no signs of childbirth appear on her and so this only helps her to hang onto her slender figure.
Personality:
Esther is certainly the woman that one will stare at while walking past in the street. Often wearing a large grin and fiddling with her dangling earrings and other costume jewellery. She is what one would call ornate. Both in character and appearance. She is a very energetic soul and often her energy is contagious. She is blunt and will often laugh at the least humorous things.
Not really caring about if one likes her, Esther will tell a person what she thinks of them. She doesn’t care much for the consequences, she does however care about letting those know what is thought of them as one cannot go through life thinking they are perfect, after all. Esther simply makes sure this doesn’t happen in her own unique way.
Esther’s passion is duelling. Once having been a superb dueller, she wants to engage students in it so they are able to feel the same power she feels from it. She thrives off this power and it only makes her a stronger fighter. She is not strong in physical strength, but her wand abilities scream that she is powerful. The elderly woman however loves to over exaggerate things and this she will do often. The only thing she is unable to over exaggerate would of course be her duelling skills.
Esther is far from a trusting person. Everybody is her enemy and she is very suspicious and especially careful around people she had only recently met. Her days as an auror had helped with this as well as being betrayed by her partner.
History:
Born in New York in 1932 on the 19th of July, Esther had a fabulous upbringing. Her family never struggled for anything and her being an only child made things perfect. She never wanted siblings and was perfectly happy living with her parents, Jenifer and Charlie Boothroyd. With her father working as an Auror and her mother staying home, the family mainly lived off the wealth her mother’s mother had left behind before dying.
Going to Salem’s Institute when she was old enough, Esther thrived when practising both defensive and practical magic. She however concentrated less on school and more on the boys in the school. Her grades however remaining high, Esther worked at making herself the most admired girl at the school and at 5”8’ with legs up to her elbows and long blonde hair, she did indeed get what she wanted.
And this carried on even after leaving school with remarkable grades as she settled down with her boyfriend of 2 years, feeling they were perfect for each other. Even with her family insisting it wasn’t love, how could they have understood it? To them Esther had just been stupid blonde teenager. But she had been far from that and after a year and finding her ‘true love’ in bed with her cousin, Esther had of course finished it, deciding that she never wanted to go near another man.
She’d begun at the ministry, training as an Auror at this time. She loved it there, and found it fabulous as she was able to carry out everything she loved, especially duelling. The paperwork however got on her goat many a time. She nevertheless dealt with it and never failed to hand it in. And after 10 years of pure hard work and slogging for the Auror office, Esther had been made a senior Auror, allowing her far more power over her colleagues and she loved to instil this.
She continued with this for another ten years, not really letting anything else get into her life. What else was there but work? There was something she however discovered, and that was a man she worked with that she reluctantly found herself falling for. In her early 30s, Esther was a very cynical woman and she tried to fight anything she was beginning to feel for the man, Peter Jacks. She constantly told herself how nothing was ever going to happen with him, until one night. After a hard day at work and a staff Christmas party, Esther had stupidly allowed herself to get very drunk and she’d woken up the following morning on a her office desk, sharing an Auror’s robe as a sheet with Peter.
Having been truly appalled with herself, Esther had often tried her utmost to avoid him at work. It was difficult however and she somehow managed up, in bed one night along with him having not touched a drop of alcohol. She then felt that maybe he was right. After all, she hadn’t been drunk that second time and it had been perfect. She however focused on work and tried to ignore everything in her mind until it became too much and Peter had said how much he loved her and after several months, proposed to her.
Esther however had been terrified of commitment and had rejected his offer, telling him how she was seeing someone else, which had been a blatant lie. She did know though that she didn’t want a relationship that heated with a man. No, the one night stands appealed to her far more. Then no-one was hurt.
Come 1978, Esther grew bored of her job and after applying at the Salem’s institute for the Defensive Magic position, she had been ecstatic to have received it and she’d started immediately. Finding she has a natural talent for teaching, Esther had stuck with it for 19 years. She had been at the school for the headmaster’s death and had been appalled upon Blagden receiving the Dean’s position and she’d been further angered when Pratt had been put in place as the Vice Dean. She liked nothing about the Dean’s methods but she however remained at the school, uncharacteristically biting her tongue about it as she didn’t want to lose a job she loved so much.
Things had gone a bit far with the Attack in the year of 1996 and after fighting on the front to protect the school, Esther had been injured. But there was no smoke without fire, and after much deliberation, she’d decided to return to teach at the school, not wanting one bit to miss out on a hopefully better year at the school.

Sweeping into the large classroom, Esther beamed upon seeing the rowdy bunch of urchins all running amok in her classroom. Well how else should the room be upon her entrance? Flicking a piece of grey hair from her eye, Esther practically glided towards her desk before pulling her oak wand out and tapping it once on her board for the aims of the lesson to appear and with one flick, her wand facing the rest of the classroom, each desk vanished with a pop. The room suddenly fell silent and Esther’s smile widened as she clapped her hands together and looked over them at the students.
“The sun is shining,” she gestured to the window that showed the rain dripping down the outside of it. “You are all full of energy,” she span around on the spot before tapping her robe down to hang perfectly “and you have your favourite teacher for your favourite class.” She motioned to herself and winked before raising her hands in a gesture for the students to rise. “Stand.” She ordered before flicked her wand once and the stools vanished, causing a few slow students to fall to the floor.
With a shake of the head and flick of the finger, Esther sighed and frowned. “I told you to stand Mr Harrison. Did I not make myself clear?” she folded her arms and beamed once more, her pale cheeks reddening slightly. “I’ll come and shout directly into your ear next time just because I’m generous.” Winking once more, Esther took a few strides nearer the students at the front and she twisted her wand between her thin fingers. “Today’s lesson is all about concentration and trust.”
Making a quick turn to stare straight into the eyes of a young boy, she glared viciously. “After all, when defending yourselves, you need to know who exactly you can trust.” And she took a side step to glare into the eyes of a young girl. “Some people might backstab you. Would you do that Miss Keane? Betray your closest friends?” The worried girl shook her head and Esther sprang up, throwing her arms out with a loud “Aha!”, causing several students to jump out the way.
“You are a liar Miss Keane!” she practically shouted at the girl. “Everyone will betray someone at some point.” She leaned into the girl and whispered lightly in her ear. “It’s just a matter of time.”
