Are you over 13?: (You MUST answer this) yes
Name: Marissa Penelope Martin
Age: 67
Gender: female
Birthday/Sign: April 19, 1930/ Aries
Blood Type/Purity: B negative/ Pure
Appearance: Penelope isn't exactly beautiful, but she isn't ugly either. For a woman her age, she looks very nice. She has aged gracefully, but not gracefully enough to keep her natural hair color, so she dyes it. She isn't tall, nor is she short, she is of average height for a woman her age. She weighs about 150 pounds, to her great satisfaction.
When Marissa was younger, she had a dark head of brown hair, with blue eyes, which was quite a mixture. Her robes are normally very dull, but with different shades and hues. She wears only small and unnoticable accesories, and them not often.
Personality: Marissa is a very nice person, there is not one person that she thinks is incapable of anything. She believes strongly that if you can believe it, you can achieve it, which is her motto. To describe her in one word would be impossible, because there are so many different sides of her. Once you could find her laughing and the next crying, I guess you could say she is moody.
Before she became a professor at SWIM, Marissa did many things that she regrets, which is why she turned her life around, and became so nice. Some people say that her generosity is her biggest downfall. She has been known from time to time to look in on people's futures, even if they don't want her to. She is just curious, which sometimes gets her into major trouble.
History:
Born to Elizabeth Speares and Jonathan Martin on the morning of April 19, 1930, Marissa Penelope Martin was formed. She was born at a small wizarding hospital in Paris, France, that her parents owned, both of them were doctors. In her young years, she was around blood, and sickness, and death a lot, because she grew up practically in a hospital. She saw some pretty gruesome things. At the young age of five, Marissa, or Penelope, as she likes to be called, got her first vision. Her parents, not knowing what to do with her, sent her to live with the worst kind of person there could ever be to live with, her aunt.
Her aunt was shockingly ugly, and sarcastic, and mean. Quite the opposite of little Penny, but she was a seer, and many years of seeing grim futures turned her that way. Right then, little Penny turned her back on her parents, and therefore hospitals, her entire life, never to speak to them again. She worked her little tail off training to control her powers, or curse, as her aunt liked to call it, "But Aunt Barbara, why would I be given a curse?" she would ask, because she thought she had been a good girl, and didn't deserve a curse.
Penny grew taller, and stronger, as time went by. She was around eight when she finally started getting control of her gift, she could understand what the visions here and there meant, and along with her gift, she was learning other forms of Divination, such as tea leaves and crystal ball readings. At the age of ten, her parents died, in a freak hospital explosion, but Penny didn't care, she didn't like them anyway. She just delved deeper into her training to become a 'circus freak' as her aunt said it was the only job fit for the little brat.
The very same year, Penny's aunt died, of a heart-attack, apparently while seeing a vision. She was sent away for the second time, to live with the closest relative, an older cousin, a squib. The daughter of Barbara, she was neglected as a child as well, called a mistake, a useless piece of flesh, so they got along great. She was back in France, where she absolutely loved. It had been a very busy year for her, and yet, she still got an acceptance letter to go to the prestigious school Beauxbaton's.
It was a great honor to be accepted to such a great all witches school, and so she went.to collect her school supplies. At the wand shop, she didn't even have to wait for a wand, as the wand flew to her, without even opening the box. The shopkeeper, and wandmaker, said it was a sign of greatness, although she didn't believe it. Her first year at Beauxbaton's came around without problems, just a lot of work. She had to study on her own for etticut, on top of all her other classes, because she wasn't 'lady-like'.
She passed all of her exams, with an 'E', of which both she and her cousin were very proud of. Her second year went about the same, and on the exams she made yet another 'E', the only difference was that she stopped studying for etticut.
In her third year, she finally got her electives, which had their own exams. She took only Divination, that she hated, because there was no challenge in it at all. She already knew everything, much to the professor's dismay. She and the teacher didn't get along very well, because she was a fraud, and Penny, or Penelope, as she goes by now, was not. She excelled in the tests that year, along with every year in the future.
She graduated with a large group of friends that she had made, and went on to start her career. She went to work at a circus, like her dear auntie said she would, and met the love of her life, Leland. He was a tight rope walker, and a muggle lover, hence the reason he was working at a circus. Not long after their engagement, they quit their jobs at the circus, to move to America. They bought a small house in a small muggle town in North Dakota. Where, later that very year, they birthed their only daughter, Victoria Michelle Kimball.
Because of her own childhood, she wasn't exactly the best mother, but she did the best she knew. She bought young Michelle anything she could ever want, she just didn't want Michelle all up on her all the time. Her daughter didn't like her, she soon found out, and she tried her best to right her wrong, but it was too late. Her daughter went on to Salem, and graduated, however, she didn't have any signs of the ability.
The year after, she went to Salem to try for a job, to be around children more, after she realized how much it hurt her daughter to not have been there, so that's where she went to work. Two years later, her late husband Leland Kimball died, making her a widow. The job was simple enough, as long as she didn't set her expectations too high, and life went on.
Three years ago, her Daughter, whom she had been slowly getting close to, came to work at Salem as the Practical Magic teacher. It brought them so much closer, and all was right with the world again, that is, until the attack. All year, Penelope tried to tell people that something was going to happen, she didn't know what, but that something would happen. Some of the professors thought she was a fraud, and didn't take heed to her caution, they would soon be sorry. That dreadful night, Penelope was out on the grounds, trying to cleanse her aura, when she heard the attack. She was far off from the school, out by herself, to meditate, so she didn't see them arrive. She was getting very old, and couldn't run as fast as she used to, but she got back to the castle just in time to see the professors chasing the people back into the forest.
Likes: Anything that has to do with the beyond Marissa likes, and anything else doesn't even come close to compare. Under that, she pretty much likes everything, long walks on the beach, long romantic dinners for two, a stroll through the park, a nice cup of tea, and any other type of romance there ever could be. She fancies eating as well, it seems that all she does is eat, meditate, mark, and sleep.
Dislikes: Marissa doesn't fancy icky dirt, or things that live in the dirt. She doesn't like greasy foods, and she doesn't like doctors. NO she does NOT like doctors. In fact, she hates them so much, she birthed her only daughter at home, without one.
Special Abilities: Seer (see link at bottom of page)
Wand: 9 inch Willow with Ashwinder Ash core
Broom: Flying? It's for the birds!
Pet: A moke, yes one of those lizards that can shrink at will, named Shrinky (big surprise there)
Class Taught: Prescience
Special Titles: N/A
Years Teaching: 17
Reason for Teaching: Marissa wants to teach because she loves the beyond, and wants to help others to see what it's like to know what she knows.

Penelope Martin was rather annoyed, which was almost impossible a feat to achieve. She didn't like to be called a fraud, and the class she was about to have seemed to be absolutely full of unbelievers. With a sigh, she turned to her desk. She looked into her cup sitting on the desk, only to find that she hadn't used tea leaves this morning, but tea bags, so there was absolutely nothing to look at. She knew that it was going to be tea leaves today, so she went over and put on a kettle over the fire.
It was going to be a long day, that was for sure. It wasn't like she acted like a fraud, she tried to act normal, but when you have a gift like hers, it just was hard to hide. Oh well, she thought, as she turned once again to the back of the room, with a flick of her willow wand, a tea cup flew up on every desk in the room. Around that time, students started filing in.
Standing up as the bell rang, her deep blue robes looked very homely, or so she thought. She decided to start, even though she had such a small class. "Welcome," She said, looking at the students in the classroom, "I don't expect you to see the future, you aren't seers, with an exception here and there, but I do expect you to try your best."
"On that note, let's get started. Now, I expect you to form a single file line up at my desk while I pour your cup full of tea." She said, standing and walking over to the fire. She picked up the kettle with the piece of cloth beside it, so that she wouldn't burn her hand. As the students passed by her, she tried to see a little about them, but today wasn't a great day for her visions, they had been screwed up all week, and she couldn't figure out why, but that didn't mean that the other means of Prescience would fail her too.
"Now, children, drink your tea, and speak to your friends while you do," she said warmly, "and then partner up, and read the tea leaves. To do this, all you must do is look at the shapes in the bottom of the cup, and match them with the photographs in the book on page 27. If you need me, I will be walking around the room, helping you all." She said, starting her slow patrol around the room, peering into a cup here and there.
