You would rather deal with him and his stubbornness than deal with him when he is angry. He has a particular weakness in letting his feelings be known about situations at all times, and if his thoughts are not taken into extreme consideration, he can become moody and just a jerk to be around. Especially after the attack on SWIM, he has been known to go through extreme moodswings.
History: Leon de Lefent was born to a hardworking Parisian couple in the bowels of New Orleans. The family was of all pureblood Witches and Wizards, but being surrounded by Muggles caused them to rely less on magic and more on their own abilities. Leon’s father was a street seller of various Muggle sweets, and his mother was a scholar of historical France.
Due to his mother’s thick teachings of his ancestors, Leon always had a thirst for knowledge, especially about older, unexplainably things. He spent many hours a day with his mother, deciphering ancient history books in French, along with many other languages.
His years at the Coven school where he began to learn magic were not some of his best years, to put it lightly. Being young, Leon much preferred his Muggle school where his friends were. Not to mention that the Coven school in New Orleans was home to a variety of shady charcters, both students and teachers, and for his first time with contact of pureblood Wizards and Witches, his opinion plummeted. From than on he has never really been trustful or kind to purebloods, for he believes that each and everyone of them believes that they are better than everyone else.
When it was time for him to receive his education at Salem Institute, his parents were unsure whether they wanted their only son to attend. After they stories they heard about the Conven school, they were not sure if they wanted their child in that sort of environment. He seemed much more partial to Muggle school, and they did not want to pull him away from what he loved. In the end, his parents decided to send him, due to the fact that he needed to learn about the other aspect of the family, the Magical side.
He was a member of the Ptolemy House, and he excelled in his classes there, especially Magical History and Runeology. He was never very good at Defensive Magic or Practical Magic, much preferring to read from a book than wave a wand. Leon has always been an avid follower that “Knowledge is Power”, and due to his thoughts on that, he always felt that he wanted to be a teacher.
After his years at SWIM, Leon returned home, to work as an author of various books regarding Ancient Runes. His books were found upon Witch Weekly’s Best Seller’s list, and he gained world-wide fame, as well as hundreds of thousands of galleons for it. His best book, Runes; An Essential Guide, is repertoire for very prestigious schools for their Runeology classes, such as Durmstrang and Beauxbatons.
One day, just before it was time for him to travel to Paris, where he was going to go on a little trip to see the city, his former Runeology teacher contacted him, with dire news. He had been stricken with Dragon Pox, and he was no longer going to be able to teach. His dying wish for him was to take over the postion at SWIM, for he knew that Leon would do a great job of it. Not even thinking, Leon responded with a resolute yes, and traded in his plane ticket to Paris for one to Salem’s Peak.
Over the next few months before the term started, Leon pulled out his wand and tried to become accustomed to life living as a Wizard. Surprisingly, it came back to him fairly quickly, and he was spruced up on his spells and ready for the school year to begin.
The first year, as is the first year for any teacher, was the best. His fascination with Runes sparked interest with the students, and his class was greatly loved by all who took it. The second year was supposedly supposed to be quieter, but that was not the case for Leon, nor was it the case for as long as he continued to teach. He his love for Runes seemed to increase each year, and he was certain that he had finally found his place in the world.
During the school year of 1996, his world seemed to come crashing down around him. Late at night, a group of what are being referred to as Neo- Death Eaters attacked the school. The staff were called into action, and Leon joined them, though never being particularly good at the sorts of magic needed for a fight. He did not let that pull him down, however, and instead focused upon his arsenal of magical talismans and amulets to help him in the battle. They were successful, and though a student did have some damage, no deaths became of it.
Since then Leon was somewhat downed his enthusiasm in class, turned his teaching over to much more darker and dangerous runes, in order to prepare his students. The runes are meant to be useful, and in this day and age, to protect, and that is exactly what Leon hopes to do.
Likes: Foreign languages, Runes, reading, writing, and a fine meal.
Dislikes: Disrespectful students, mockery, cocky purebloods
Special Abilities: Master of many languages, both magical and non. Crafter of talismans and amulets.
Wand: Hawthorne and Ashwinder Ash, 13'
Broom: Scarlet Hawk
Pet: Krupp, named Odin
Class Taught: Runeology
Special Titles: Runeology Professor
Years Teaching: 10 years
Reason for Teaching: The dying wish of his old professor and mentor.
Writing Sample: Summer went by too fast! Leon thought as he started to scribble his notes for the first day of the school year upon the black board. It seemed like it was just yesterday that he had left SWIM, on to his three month excursion to Helsinki, to discover more about some very advanced runes. Now, he was back in his large classroom, with Helsinki seeming like a dream.
A stream of students came into the classroom, smiles plastered on their faces. Many called out hellos to Leon, which he returned graciously. “Welcome back everyone!” He called from the front, smiling at the young faces in front of him. “I do hope everyone had a fantastic break, I know I certainly did. Very well, right to business then,” he dragged his wand across the black board, and a shining figure appeared, glowing brightly.
“Now, can anyone tell me what this represents? Please make certain to pay particular attention to the direction the upper part is pointing, do not confuse it with “jharz” which you all know means luck.”
