Name: Ryuuki
Other characters on the board: Zero
Are you over 13?: Most Certainly
Name: Lin DeMonsi
Age: 15
Year in Salem: Sophomore (2nd year)
Gender: Female
Birthday/Sign: April 1st, Aries
Blood Type/Purity: O+, Halfblood
Appearance:
Height: short (5'1")
Hair: Dark brown that fades to sun burnt ambers and golds, about three feet, generally kept tied up in double ponytails or buns
Eyes: Mainly pale green, amber center around the pupil, dark green edges
Body Type: small bone structure, small chest, small hands, wrists, ....just small grr...
Personality: Generally calm, good natured, and friendly most of the time. Doesn't get angry easily (which can get on other's nerves), but can be annoyed, and when annoyed the already small voice gets quite a bit squeakier.
An adventurous type, Lin loves exploring new places, she has yet to map out Salem Witches Institute, but she certainly intends to. She'll courageously stand up for her friends, even if she couldn't hold her own if a real fight broke out. Enthusiastic and confident, she plunges ahead in her new inventions, no matter how many failures she has. And her quick-witted manner helps her evade any and all explosions or worse, with hardly a scratch, whenever they do go wrong.
She can be quite impulsive and impatient, so if an invention, or a conversation, or even an acquaintance for that matter, starts looking like a dead horse, she's quick to drop it. So it's best not to get on her bad side, she holds grudges.
Likes: Technology, Japanese muggle culture, and cats
Dislikes: most green foods, holier-than-thou personalities
Special Abilities: animangus, home-taught, takes form of Maine Coon breed
Inventing hybrid technology/magic items, most fail but occasionally gets a winner that exceeds even the most advanced spell in that area (focuses mainly on household and entertainment technologies, from music players to storage space makers)
History: Lin grew up in California in various houses in the same town. Her father is an expert in combustion and fire magics, so moving around a lot became a bit necessary, since between his work and her experiments....even charmed houses had a fairly short lifespan. Luckily for the both of them, her mother is one of the countries best wizarding doctors, so they never lost any limbs. Both parents made excellent pay, so after new a house, or three, it placed them in at upper middle class range.
Accustomed to muggles and their ways as she's gone to muggle schools for her primary education, but lived in a wizarding house. She'd been trained to hide her witchy abilities and keep her family a secret to her friends, and as such is an excellent infiltrator in muggle communities and finds other wizards lack of 'common knowledge' simply laughable. "They could at least find out the proper manners of dressing. Given the widespread access to muggle media, you'd think they could pick up a magazine," is her usual muttered response when running into an obvious offender.
Her grandfather on her father's side had been a muggle, so she wasn't pure blood. Lin has nothing against muggles in general, but she still to this day can't fathom why her grandmother marries such a...well, let's just say her vocabulary in that matter isn't appropriate or necessary for you to be reading. Her great grandmother on her mother's side had also been a muggle, but Lin didn't know much about her, the stories she got though seemed pleasant enough though.
Her family moved to the outskirts of Salem's Peak half a year before she was to start school at the Witches Institute. It had been quite interesting for her to explore every nook and cranny of the all wizarding town that she could gain access to. Of course here, some areas weren't as easy to walk into as in a muggle town, or as inviting. But she thoroughly enjoyed the shops and all their amazing items. Since they'd lived so far from any all wizarding towns, the only magical items she'd ever seen had been those her parents had in the house and a few small Christmas shopping brochures in her mother's things. Her experiments spiraled upwards dramatically after the move, since she suddenly had access to far more magical items to test out and combine with her previous ones, she even salvaged a few of her old failures. Her pocket money on the other hand took a nose dive, so she's in the process of trying to market some of her successes...but so far, no wizards seem like they'll have anything to do with her hybrids.
She'd started school a year ago and eagerly attacked learning Transfiguration, Alchemy, Practical Magic, and Defensive Magic. Though History of magic was a little hard for her to focus in, and Herbology was a little more dirt under her nails than she liked, she did like them also, and Astronomy was quite interesting, even if she hadn't found a use for it yet.
Last year, when the front entrance had been attacked, there'd been quite a scare. Her parents had even pulled her home to finish her lessons in the safety of their house, much to her irritation, they hadn't nearly as much useful equipment and potential material lying about as the school did.
This year, the defenses of the school had recieved notable applause, and she returned to classes with excitement. She'd pondered having Magizoology as her elective, since she did like animals also, she'd decided on Numerology instead, to assist with her core hobby. She'd thought Muggle Studies might be amusing, but had then considered that she may also grow tired of it and lose focus. Prescience had been laughable from the start, and while Runeology had looked enticing, she wasn't sure she wanted to cut into her tinkering time with an extra class.
Hopes and Dreams: Hopes her inventions will one day be widely accepted by wizarding society and help advance the magical world
Wand: 9 inch white cedar, core of phoenix feather
Broom: Zephyr 5ooo (with a booster of her own design)
Pet: Zuku, a Great Horned Owl, an amazing 14 years old, still healthy and intelligent, but a tad forgetful on occasion
Writing Sample:
Lin crept as quickly and quietly as possible down the hall, sorely tempted to change into her animangus at each and every sound and shadow she saw.
She'd been in her lab, well...it was her Muggle Studies classroom, but when it was empty it made an excellent lab to work on her experiments, and she'd been doing exactly that and had lost track of time. Absorbed in her most recent work, she'd been oblivious to the change in light coming through the windows and had stayed out far past lights out. Dead, dead, dead, I'm so dead.... she thought frantically as the window next to her suddenly rattled. She quashed her squeak of fright with all her will as she turned to see it had only been the wind. Of course it was the wind, she hissed at herself.
It wasn't that she was afraid of the ghosts. The two Civil War generals were actually quite amusing. Having been from opposite sides, they constantly waged skirmishes all over the school. From launching themselves at each other over the heads of students during a test, much to the aggravation of the teachers, to trying to split the lunch room into sides and egging on a food fight every now and then.
No, it wasn't them...it was the Hall Monitors. This year's team was horribly ruthless. If she were caught again, yes again, there'd be trouble. She had a poor sense of punctuality and had been five minutes late to class once…or twice. But this once, she'd been two inches from the door when one had swooped down on her, giving her a lecture that had heightened her five minutes to fifteen minutes. The teacher hadn't taken that as excuse and had taken fifteen points from her house for her tardiness. But that was class, if she were caught after lights out the results could be far worse. What if they tell, and I lose privileges to use the classroom as a lab? It's not like I can work somewhere else...the rest of the school's enchanted against normal muggle technology...Ah! There was the last corner to her house, so close, I made it, she sighed with relief.
She turned the corner, ready with the password on her lips when:
Thump
